First off, CONGRATS!! :-BD
Secondly, although the vibes (both human and canine) came through, I believe karma came back for you for all your wise advice on the ArkieDukie job hunt. :ymapplause:
I'll second all of that! :happy-bouncyblue: :happy-bouncyblue: :happy-bouncyblue: ^:)^ ^:)^ ^:)^ ^:)^

Do I sense a revival of the "Take this job and shove it" thread?

Another reason I was able to resign was that my boss has decided to move our iPad development offshore. I think there are some cases where this is a good idea, but this isn't one of them. First, we're not outsourcing the entire project, just prototyping and design. This means that we'll have to pick up the project once it's delivered, and then rely on collaboration and support with a team in India. Hurray for time zone differences between California, North Carolina, and India. Outsourced projects are a real bitch to manager too. I'm already overworked and underpaid, and then he wanted me to add a new development team to manage? Ugh, no thanks. To make it even worse, we know developers, even some of our ex-employees that are native Apple developers, looking for work, familiar with our customers, target market and code base, and live right down the road from the office yet he felt it was better to go offshore.

Well we had a status meeting with the team. Turns out the Indian team has moved the design portion of development offshore to a team in Los Angeles.

oh the joys of offshore! My current company has a small army of Indian nationals working on projects, and code being written in India. They (the company) are just now figuring out that it doesn't work near as well as they thought it would. =)) =)) I too know local qualified good folks looking for jobs - and seeing Bangalor Annex down the hall just fries my cookies.

Any time a politician gets on the 'illegals taking American jobs' I want to scream. No one seems to care about the legal exporting of American jobs to foreign shores, or the use of legal aliens in onshore roles. X( X( X( (end of political commentary)

Really, offshoring the most critical part of a project - prototyping & design? That seems... backwards.

And working with Indian development centers is awful, no good overlapping time zones. At least in working with Shanghai (my team has a corresponding equal team there,) there's a decent overlap between 4PM and 8PM pacific.

Done deal as of today. I will be going from my current employer to an insurance carrier whose primary mission is to serve its members, current and former members of the military. As a former Army officer and 20 year member, it is an incredible honor to be able to help support that mission. This does mean I will have to move... :(

I do like the area where I currently reside considerably, I would prefer to stay here much longer. The only downside to the area is not being able to see all the Duke games on TV.

Amazing. I have two more friends who today told me/announced they have made major moves employment-wise. One is a high school friend who lives in Charlotte. One isn't... :D
