Actually both narratives are correct and that's part of the problem - depending on who you are and/or which mod is reading the thread the rules change. I got away with adding 'we bought Lavabe the lasers' to the Lemur center thread. I can guaran - damn - tee you that there are a few people on this board who would have gotten hammered for writing EXACTLY the same thing. (I actualy was 99% sure when I did it I could get away with it when I did it)

In the entire bazillion years I've been around the DBR I have never had a personal issue with any of the MODS - never been baned, sanctioned, given a time or anything of the sort. I had ONE post delete in al l that time - nothing bad - it pretty much just a 'what he said' kind of thing which I decided after I submitted it decided it was stupid and would have deleted it myself if it had been in my power. I have seen one or two Mods down right ugly and nasty to people - both privatey and publically...the sort of thing that would get we mortals tossed in a New York minute....or take exception ot a commnet/topic and lock it/delete it or such (that would fit #2 above) while two threads down virtually the same thing is occurring and nothing happens (that would be #1 above). It is easier to play by the rules when you know what they are! :D

Forget it... he's rolling. :-$ In a matter of moments, he'll pull a full Belushi and reference the Germans bombing Pearl Harbor. :D \m/

Oh thank goodness that wasn't my 100th post! (Although I did miss it somewhere.)

windsor: I'll see your one or two, and raise you one or two. ;) Send me those lasers, NOW! :D Fortunately, I have yet to be baned, banned, or whatever. ;)

Regardless, that still leaves a large number (a majority maybe) of mods who are decent. One thing I DID appreciate: Julio took the time to listen and to disagree with me politely.

Having said that, I truly enjoy CrazieTalk's rotating mod system. And most appealing is that I haven't seen too much evidence of people/moderators calling one another (or their posts) names. And hey, wilson and bostondevil can even say the f-word here. =)) Sorry. That just makes me LMAO. 8-} =)) :)) Or is it LOL?

Oh yeah, and CrazieTalk has EarlJam... AND Windsor's Daughter. \m/

Actually, I think that the moderation is wildly inconsistent between the two extremes, depending on who's posting and which way the wind is blowing. The indignant, thin-skinned (and sometimes outright vindictive) response to any questioning of moderation practices (see above) only exacerbates the problem.
I frankly just don't think it feels like the "neighborhood bar" at all anymore, and the few dozen people I really care to hear from are all here now. I don't miss my former posting habits at DBR at all.

I invited DukeDevilDeb over today. She had a recent mod run in, and I see she has joined. Welcome DDD!\
Check around the 112th and 113th pages of the John Wall novel, the mods were back in action.

I am SOOOOOOO happy that Deb is here (and that we decided against naming kumquats DEBRA)!!

... also, thank you throaty for your contributions on this thread.

"No comment here, no comment at all. We only wanted to introduce you to one of our very special citizens, little Anthony Fremont, age 6, who lives in a village called Peaksville in a place that used to be Ohio. And if by some strange chance you should run across him, you had best think only good thoughts. Anything less than that is handled at your own risk, because if you do meet Anthony you can be sure of one thing: you have entered the Twilight Zone."
---Rod Serling's closing narration, It's A Good Life, The Twilight Zone

That isn't the only place on the EK Forum that has seen some action. The sticky is now locked.

This is why I, for one, will continue to unapologetically call it TOWEL.
