Re: Cut, UT
I'm still holding out hope. Look at it this way: he was fired from Ole Miss because he wouldn't fire some of his assistants. Tennessee doesn't want him to bring his assistants. In other words, he's having to make a call based on loyalty to his staff. As an added bonus, TN is showing up front that they want some measure of control over his assistants. Maybe he'll remember that he's been down this particular road before and didn't like where it went. I can hope, right?
Unfortunately for us, it looks like this is going to play out more like the Roy Williams from Kansas to UNC scenario than the Coach K to the Celtics/Lakers scenario. Oh, and didn't Roy cause a stink by bringing his staff from Kansas and getting rid of the UNC staff?

See ya.
My contact says it's all over but the logistics.
I'm not holding my breath.
This bothers me. This really, really bothers me. Mostly WRT the timing issue, 3 weeks before the signing period. It may be the dream job for him, but this really sucks.

I doubt Duke has enough stock in to get him here.TillyGalore wrote:Charlie Weiss is available.Devil in the Blue Dress wrote:I know that such job changes may be considered as part of being an adult..... but I really don't like this one. The timing makes it even worse with signing day on the horizon. Even if TN won't let him bring his entire staff, I'm concerned about the limited staff remaining. Several coaches mentioned as possibilities for Duke on some threads here and yon have already said they wouldn't leave for TN. Kevin White has his job cut out for him!

Re: Cut, UT
Dang it. As my earlier post said, I was hoping he'd back out on TN out of loyalty to his assistants (and to Duke).

Re: Cut, UT
I agree with AD. There is reason, albeit slim, to hope.
If UT really wants Mr. Cutcliffe, he's gone.
If he goes, best of luck to him. Thanks for what ya' did for the program (very significant IMO).
I see this thing as "half full". Whom amongst you ever thought that Duke's Football coach would get "poached" by a big-time school in the (totally corrupt) SEC?
We're BIG-TIME! ;)

Re: Cut, UT
Another interesting bit of trivia: I'm getting the impression that a lot of TN fans don't want Cutcliffe. They're pitching a fit about it, in fact. They don't think he's "good enough" for them since he "failed" at Ole Miss. Could this work in our favor???

Re: Cut, UT
I just hope he spares us the typical, tired and phony melodrama of telling us "how hard this decision was". I just don't want to hear it. Just tell us he's overjoyed to be going home, can't pass it up, hopes we all understand----and drop the subject. That's what a truthful, stand up guy would do. We can all watch his nose grow if his statement is otherwise! And I'd be really disappointed in him then....bless his heart.

Re: Cut, UT
OK, after reading about everything I possibly could tonite about this , I'm gonna hold out a sliver of hope. Why? Cut's loyalty to his assistants. He got canned at Ole Mess (sic) over the non/firing of his coaches and he apparently wants to bring his whole staff to ut but ut has this minor problem of about 6 coaches still remaining after kiffin bolted. However, I am not gonna lose any sleep over it.

Re: Cut, UT
I can't say I'm surprised he'd want to go to UT. However, I've been hearing that there may be some trouble that Kiffen left behind in terms of recruiting violations and stuff. Would Cut want to go from a clean program that he has going in the right direction to a possibly dirty program that might face sanctions soon? That may be why some of the others have refused the job.
Maybe that's just wishful thinking on my part.

I didn't lose any sleep over it. I figured we'd hear something this morning, but so far (8:20a.m.) nothing anywhere I can find.devildeac wrote:However, I am not gonna lose any sleep over it.
I'm hoping that since Cut took the time to sleep on it overnight that he'll have his buyer's remorse before making any announcement and stay at Duke. Bobby Cremmins and what'shisname at UF waited until the day after the announcements they were leaving and that was, well, worse. I know this is wishful thinking, but it is my thinking.

I won't believe anything until I read/hear an official announcement. Though this is really cutting (no pun intended) into my work production as I keep checking the internet for news.OZZIE4DUKE wrote:The Devils Den is reporting that Cut is staying!
