Thanks for all the work you do in compiling these updates, awhom. Hopeful that plagiarism problem has gone away. If you are reading this thread to steal awhom’s work, shame on you.

So pleased to see Ryan Kelly, especially, putting up such solid numbers. I find it amazing that there’s not room for a player of his caliber in the NBA.

Re: Overseas Basketball Updates, Comments, Criticism, Suggestion

Post by awhom111 » March 22nd, 2020, 12:20 am

Before Tuesday's games, the North West Basketball Union announced that the rest of the season will be cancelled so Kathleen Scheer will not continue to play for the Penguin Blues.  Later in the week, the league for her main team announced that the start of their season, which was scheduled for a month away, would be pushed back at least another four weeks.

The next game of the Finals was scheduled for Friday, but the Sydney Kings declined to travel for the game.  The league considered the game a forfeit and thus awarded Miles Plumlee and the Perth Wildcats the championship as efforts starting over a week ago to change the game schedule all failed.  Miles finishes his first overseas with a championship in Australia after his start in China was interrupted quickly.

None of the other games this scheduled for this week ended up being played.

In Japan, the league stopped again after just getting restarted so Ryan Kelly and his team has had at least multiple weeks of games cancelled.  The plan there is to still end the season at the scheduled time so any games not played will not take place and playoff qualification will be based on winning percentage.

Taiwan had managed to avoid having any games affected other than fan attendance, but local guidelines changed this week and games were postponed, including a busy schedule for Matt Jones.  Plans to handle the changes have not been announced yet.

Games are still suspended in France, but the league still has the goal of finishing the season as DeMarcus Nelson and his team are still on the hunt for multiple trophies.

Antonio Vrankovic and Split have had Croatian league played halted at least for this month.  They did finish the Adriatic League regular season, but now wait to hear about the fate of the playoffs, which would allow them to be promoted to the top division of the regional league.

Turkey's government stepped in to stop sports for now so Chelsea Gray and Elizabeth Williams are not playing their scheduled games.  FIBA announced earlier that EuroLeague Women is over this season no matter what.

Belarus is still planning on holding playoffs at some point, although they are following government guidelines to stop play right now.  Oderah Chidom will not be able to compete for one trophy this season as the team was scheduled to compete in the European Women's Basketball League Final Four in the Czech Republic, but that was canceled.

Angela Salvadores and Erin Mathias continue to be affected by conditions in Italy.  The league there has been very reluctant to outright end the season, but may have their hand forced at some point.

Mexico also had new government guidelines in place recently so Bego Faz Davalos and her team had their season stopped for now.

The regional leagues in Australia have canceled their seasons so Kathleen Scheer did not get the chance to start the season with her main team having just played a few games locally.

The Italian federation also accepted the decision of the women's basketball leagues there to cancel the rest of their seasons so Angela Salvadores and Erin Mathias are both done.

Japan's league announced that they will not attempt to restart again so Ryan Kelly's season is done after having another strong campaign with Shibuya.

A handful of leagues have not officially ended their seasons yet, but at this point it seems unlikely that anything currently suspended will be resumed any time soon.

That includes the season not starting on time for Kendall Cooper as she was set to play for the Hawthorn Magic, which plays in one of the regional leagues in Australia based in the state of Victoria.  It was set to be her third team of the season as she had played in two other competitions with short tournament lengths.
