Liverpool wins the Carling Cup in penalty kicks over Championship League side Cardiff City (Championship League is one under the English Premiership). It was 1-1 in regulation. In the second 15 minute overtime period, Liverpool (Kuyt) scored a goal at the 108th minute mark. But Cardiff City SOMEHOW managed to tie it up with 2 minutes to go.

In PK's, Gerrard and Adam missed Liverpool's first two attempts. But Cardiff missed their 1st. Liverpool then hit their next three; Cardiff could only hit one more. The last Cardiff miss was by Steven Gerrard's younger cousin, Anthony Gerrard.

Just about everyone was cramped out. An incredible match.
Adam's PK will make the NOT SO Top Ten on Sportscenter.

USA 1, Italy 0. :usa: :flags-usa:

International Friendly, today, in Italy.

US goal by Clint Dempsey. :flags-texas: Italy outshot us, 19-4, and 7 shots on goal to 2.

But as we say in "who's your daddy" court, it just takes one....

Today's FA Cup quarterfinal match at Tottenham had to be abandoned 41 minutes into the match when a 23-yr-old player for Bolton Wanderers, Fabrice Muamba, collapsed on the pitch. No one was near him when he collapsed. Medical staff got to him, and started CPR and defibbed him, and he was ambulanced away to hospital.

The latest word is that he is fighting for his life. :YMPRAY:

I just read on ESPN that he was "stable." I wonder, though, if he was still undergoing CPR on his way to the hospital, as the article I read indicated.

Congrats to Man City for scoring TWO goals in extra time to tie and then win their final game of the season vs. QPR. If they had tied, Man United would have won the EPL title. With the win, Man City takes the EPL title.

It was really one of the most amazing finishes I have ever seen.

And THAT finishes the league for another season. All that's left is Chelsea at Bayern for the Champions League title. Then it's Euro 2012 and Olympics 2012.

Bolton, Wolves, and Blackburn Rovers get relegated.
Reading and Southampton get promoted.
Still waiting on the play-off between Blackpool and West Ham to see who else gets promoted.

Euro 2012 action heating up, with killer performances by Germany and Spain. So far:
1) no one knows what will happen in the group of death: Germany, Dutch, Denmark, and Portugal.
2) why can't Torres and Fabergas play at the same time?
3) worst tourney game so far? England vs France?
4) England will play three different front line set ups in Gtoup action?
5 ) Dutch: most disappointing.

Swansea's Brendan Zrogers takes over at Liverpool.
Spurs manager, Harry Redknapp, gets fired.
And who will get hired at Norwich?

Resurrected from page 3.

USA 1 Mexico 0. **==

First win for the US against Mexico in Mexico.

The goal scorer's parents are from Mexico but he was born in California.

It was a friendly. I wouldn't put too much into it, but still, a win in Mexico is a win in Mexico. Nice job.
Now that Euros and Olympics are done...

EPL starts up this weekend!!

Mexico was missing some of their better players, and substitution rules are lax, but it's nice to win in Azteca Stadium, finally.

Yay for EPL!

Is van Persie the piece Man U needs?

Chelsea, after a fast start to the EPL season, has started to unravel. Lots of in-fighting. VERY mediocre in Champions League, having just lost to Juventus 3-0. After this bad run, Chelsea has fired its coach:

USMNT is on a roll, but the biggest roll came yesterday when Spain beat Tahiti 10-0.
Should have been 20.

Only two, apparently, but Uruguay won 8-0.

I am liking the NBC Sports channel's coverage of Barclay's Premier League. No juggling with ESPN & Fox. They seem to be investing resources and good commentary. :-BD

The Rev. Lawgrad is presiding over a funeral tomorrow for a gentleman who taught music at the local high school. At the request of the family, he is singing "You'll Never Walk Alone."

All week I have felt like I'm at a Liverpool match, except without the drunks.
