I will watch World Cup, you watch NASCAR, and every so often we'll switch.
You'll be tied up taking care of ILJ, won't you? Can someone take up your cause?

USA vs. Japan.
Japan 3 - 1 Sweden.
Japan just overpowered Sweden, possession wise. Sweden was out-of-synch. Japan wanted it more. Japan gave 110%.
Any additional corny cliches would describe the Japan/Sweden game.

We will have 2 TV's going Sunday. We will be back and forth. I hate they are they same time. I am not a huge NASCAR fan but watch it some.

Rough viewing day for Kelly and Jeremy. She had a half day, left for vacation tonight, and we were going to meet for the end of the second.
Instead, I took her car to our mechanic, then came home at 11:45 to discover that our cable box had crashed. Nothing got it restarted; support call scheduled for tomorrow between 4:00 - 9:00 PM. So, we missed taping the game, then she got off late (I was supposed to pick her up during the half) and we both missed most of the 2nd. We followed along on my phone through ESPN ScoreCenter.
Needless to say, we were both bummed but we're very excited. Kelly comes home from the beach late Saturday, and her birthday is the 17th!!!
We've got big plans for the weekend and hope to celebrate her birthday with a victory.
GO USA!!!

Miles, do you have access to ESPN3? They have on-demand replays.

Sure do! Thanks DA. I watched the first two goals on ESPN3 and then saw highlights last night.

Coverage starts at 2PM EST. I think every country other than the US is pulling for Japan.
I know that Buehler (defense) is due back from her red card, but I really liked Sauerbrun's (sp?) performance the other day.
Normally, getting an early goal is essential, but look at what happened to Sweden against Japan. Sweden went up 1-0, and looked like goliaths out there. Their goalkeep fell apart, and Japan took over. The US defense has been prone to bouts of ineptitude. Japan's possession game very well may give the US fits.

Ugh. MAJOR brain fart on the part of the US defense. 1-1 in the 88th minute.

2-1 USA after the first of two extra periods. Thank you, pate of Abby Wambach, whose header off the cross from Alex Morgan was true.
Fifteen minutes to go.

Penalty kicks. USA had a golden opportunity at the end after Japan got a red card, but Tobin Heath (from the dump on the hump, btw) looked like she hadn't figured out how to walk on those legs yet. A beautiful pass to her, and she FELL OVER.

Mom in her walker should have been out there on the penalty kicks. Shannon Boxx got blocked, Carli Lloyd went over the bar, and Tobin Heath (
) got blocked.
Congratulations, Japan.

Japan earned it. They had our number on those kicks.
I don't know much about soccer and would like to ask a question:
When we were up one goal and sort of going into a semi-stall, why did they continue to keep the ball so long on the defensive end? They seemed to just pass it around down there in enemy territory for eternity. And finally gave up that tying goal. What am I missing here? I kept yelling "get it OUT of there" over and over. They didn't listen.
Love, Ima

Sounds like Cutcliffe and K were offering some strategical advice.

Japan earned it. And in all honesty, if it had to be another team, I'm glad it was Japan.
There were several times during this tourney when the US defense went through 5-10 minute brain fart epidemics. Yep. That happened again.
The first half should have been 1 or 2 goals for the US. That WAS the game. The Japanese defense really held its own under the US onslaught of shots.
What happened to Cheney? What was her injury?
I REALLY DO WISH the US had another substitution LATE. Sauerbrun would have come in as a sub after the 2nd US goal, as she would have helped stabilize things, but hindsight is 20/20.
I feel SO sorry for Wambach and Solo. Morgan, however, will be a good player for the US for the next Cup. LOTS of credit should go to Rapinoe.
