Another hot as Hades day on the western edge of the Piedmont. It won't be as hot as in the RDU area, but it will be hot enough to be careful while involved in outdoor activities. I'm hoping the possible thunderstorms are few so that my sister's flight from ORD can land on time at GSO this evening. This is the beginning of a weekend long celebration of our mother's 90th. birthday.... her birthday is actually today, but our celebration activities will continue throughout the weekend.

I've not had such a prolific set of lightning strikes that close to my house in a loooooong time. I'm absolutely amazed that Katie didn't wake up. It had to have been a good half hour of near constant lightning.
We could tell it was coming from the west and when it arrived, it was hellacious.
Yeah, I posted my report in the Official Good Morning thread - this was beyond the 3rd page and I didn't take the time to find it at whatever time that was - 4 a.m.? I'll have to look. Beautiful morning though!

Forecast is for 96 or 97 in Raleigh today with a heat index of 110. Now that you have the experience in physical exertion in the heat, perhaps you could come up and mow my lawn this afternoon. :flame: :)) =))

Sometimes, when it gets this hot, I just think to myself, "Man, it's really, really hot." Then, as I sweat, I begin to think, "Man, I'm really sweating due to the heat." Usually, at this point, if possible, I go inside an air conditioned room. At this point, I often think, "Man, this feels good."

There is now a heat advisory for this end of the Piedmont. I've been doing some cleaning on the back porch today can testify that it is indeed quite hot and quite humid.

Hot and wet. To quote Robin Williams "which is great when you're with a woman, but not when you're in the jungle."

Finally got around to re-caulking the air handler's cowling on my AC unit where it connects to the brickwork of the house, and to the rest of the unit. When the repair man replaced the blower motor, he graciously saved me some money by saying "you can re-caulk it yourself a lot cheaper than paying me to do it" and I think he was ready to go home... OK, however many weeks later I finally bought the clear caulk and did it this afternoon. :D

Yeah, it was hot and humid out there, and I was sweating up a flood, but I always do that anyway. It IS nice an cool B-) in the house!

A series of thunderstorms incoming for the next little while. We have a severe thunderstorm watch until 11P. Lots of rolling thunder. Rain has been heavy at times. Maybe this is part of the cool down for the weekend!

Her flight is boarding now at ORD and will arrive at GSO about 45 minutes late if the weather here doesn't interfere. The delay was for lack of equipment. (Might have been stuck in Washington area where thunderstorms are causing delays or around NYC area where wind and some other factors are causing gate holds.) Air traffic's moving fine in and out of ORD.

Plane is still being serviced and departure has been delayed over and over in small increments. Still on the ground at ORD as we approach the original scheduled arrival time at GSO.... an update: the plane pushed back from the gate 3 minutes ago. :happy-bouncyblue: :happy-bouncyblue: :happy-bouncyblue: :ymparty: :ymapplause:
