Okay...so 20 hours later, I'm still coming to grips with the Dodger loss. :((

I am wondering if the Yankees will pull this game out! The angels had a great rally in the bottom of the 5th! Here we are in the top of the 8th, Yankees winning 5-1, hmmm!! Can they rally again?

Phillies can close it out tonight...given what appears to be the mental fragility of the Dodgers, I won't be shocked. Disappointed, but not shocked.

I actually have a substantive contribution to make to this thread.

My friend, Mickey West, told me tonight that her son, Joe, has gotten the call to umpire the World Series. She is so excited for him. And, she gets to go to the games he's umpiring, too.

When I was in the 4th grade, my boyfriend's dad pitched for the Orioles in the World Series.

I generally only watch the World Series when someone I know is playing. I'll be watching this year, even though Mickey's son isn't playing per se. ;)

FWIW, I think Torre has done a horrendous job managing the NLCS. The Dodger's pitching looks afraid to be in the game.

You had a boyfriend in 4th grade? Never mind. :D Who was his dad? This is very cool! B-)

I'm certainly no fan of Gregg Doyel, and I sure as hell hope the Fillies don't win the World Series, but this is a good column in my opinion:

Yes. I had a boyfriend in the 4th grade. He liked to hold my hand and tell people that I was his GF. I liked having a BF whose dad was a major league pitcher.

Both of them were named Pat Dobson.

I remember Pat Dobson (the father, not the son). He pitched for the Yankees later in his career!

Look at those sideburns. We always asked Pat what his dad was spitting out on the pitcher's mound. His dad went through more chaw than anyone I've ever seen.

When Pat's dad went with the Orioles to Japan for an exhibition game, he brought back gorgeous silk kimonos for Pat and his sister Nancy. They wore them to school. (Their dad pitched a no-hitter during that trip). He was one of four 20-win pitchers on the Orioles in that same year, 1971.

I wish he'd gotten a World Series championship. That would have been so cool.
