Along with Bard, Ellsbury, Pedroia, and Youkilis...

Along with Beckett, Byrd, Billy Wagner, and Matsuzaka. ;) #-o

I do give the Beaneaters credit. They may be the only team not tempted to purchase a season with Mike Hampton. :bandaid:

Lavabe wonders how many millions were tied up with Matsuzaka alone. $-)

As compared to Jeter, Posada, Rivera, Pettitte, Cano, Cabrera (the man you now love to hate), Gardner, Chamberlain, Hughes, Kennedy ... :D Just saying.

No doubt, the sox have a high payroll (4th this year) and can spend more on players than nearly every other team..but most of the non-homegrown talent for the sox has come in via trade as opposed to outright "bought" talent...Dice-K and Drew being the recent exceptions...Wagner, Martinez, Bay, Beckett, Lowell all via trade..
but even as a sox fan, I agree that there is a disparity in baseball..the range here is crazy..

That's fair, although the core there are from the late 90s yankee model which is what the sox are trying to duplicate. The Yanks have been better though over the past two years of developing from within and then plugging in the holes with top free agents (more successfully than the sox)...It makes me happier, though, to use A-Rod, Teixeira, Sabathia, Burnett, and Damon when discussing these things.. :D
