Our list looks good. Looking forward to seeing both Cockrell and Braxton out on the field. Those are positions that you DON'T want your guy playing if he is hurt, at least not with a leg injury. Hard to cover your guy if you are missing a step. I could see Braxton dealing with a hurt shoulder better than Cockrell working with a hurt ankle.

It's probable we will see Cockrell playing free safety, which will protect his sore ankle a bit by not having him locked up one-on-one with a receiver or responsible for run support. Garret Patterson (#24) and the youngsters have been looking good at cornerback: Fields (#14) and Borders (#31). Jeremy Cash (#16) and Deondre Singleton (#33) should start at the other two safety spots which have more run support responsibility. Devon Edwards (#27) and Corbin McCarthy (#26) are also healthy. We are young, but very deep at defensive back so Coach Cutcliffe has options to protect Ross Cockrell; however, I strongly believe Coach will want Cockrell on the field due to experience and leadership.

The 4-2-5 safety position terminology (Bandit, Rover, Strike) go completely over my head. I have no idea which is which. I think Rover is what is traditionally called free safety (deep middle responsibility/help the corners).

I trust Cut has the guys focused on one game and one game only.

Absolutely! The team needs to be focused on nothing but State. Us fans will take care of the bowl game speculating and discussing beating Miami and the possibility of playing in the ACCCG and spending the Holidays in Florida, etc....

Focus on nothing but winning one game at a time!!!

Exactly! If the guys have the same mindset that the fans do, this game will be much closer than it should be. Duke has to come out with the same fire and "chip on the shoulder" type mentality that they have been the past few games. The defense cannot allow State to gain momentum and have a quick start. I loved your article on BDN and I agree that overconfidence is one of the few things that could keep Duke from a 7-2 start.

I really think we are working on the pass game for Miami.

...to expand upon what I put before. Our passing game started fairly well, but then struggled. However, I think our running backs are a real strength to this team. If I can see that (and I really do not know that much about football), I'm sure Coach Cut and Roper know that too. Our passing game has not been that good since Boone returned save one half against Va. Now granted the pass defenses of the two Va boys are good, but most of the errors that stopped drives seemed more related to poor execution on our part. NC State had a good line, but we should've been able to really take advantage of their secondary. Still, I think they went heavier on the passing game than they needed and I think the reason is the coaches were looking a little ahead to Miami. To beat Miami, we're going to need an efficient passing game. We won't be able to win the game the way we've won the last two. So, my guess was, we were working on our passing game in prep for Miami while also keeping our backs healthy.

Oh...one more thing... can we give 2 game balls to Devon Edwards. Without him, we easily could have lost an ugly one. Major props to that dude!!!  B-)

I'll join you. Bet no other defensive player in the nation made 2 TDs in 26 sec. :9f:
