Well HURRAH for Ruthie! Make sure Grandpa gives you lots of hugs, reads lots of stories and lets you have whatever you want!

Ruthie started running a fever about 4 pm. At 10 they called Duke and the doc on call said he wanted a urine sample tonight, so they took her to the local hospital to get it done. My friend/doctor/golf partner met them there. It's very tough to get urine and blood from a dehydrated small child, but still... Last I heard they are still trying. Good thing I'm not there with them, or I'd have called the nurse sticking her repeatedly the fucking incompetent that she is.

She has low hemoglobin (normal after surgery, but lower than they want) and a high white count meaning an infection, probably a UTI (?). They did take a blood culture eventually, and on Monday we'll know what she's got. Meanwhile, she's on antibiotics. She was actually feeling better by the time they got home about 1 a.m.

I hope Little Ruthie is on the mend and much more chipper today! And rested well, along with the parents and grandparents.

She slept through the night, but that meant she woke up without meds in her system. She's not feeling well this morning, and she is not drinking (or eating) enough. When they gave her her meds around 10:30, she didn't keep them down. She watched the Olympic bball game sitting very quietly, not wanting to do anything. She's certainly not herself today.

I'm hoping that Ruthie feels better soon. Certainly a morning watching hoops with GrandpaOz is a a step on the road toward her complete recovery.
