I was bedeviled, and so was our garage door that now has a small dent in it from my fist.devildeac wrote:What? No BeDeviler poll for this one?
I suspect the only ones bedeviled/bedeviling were those of us watching. No one on the floor deserved any special mention.

I had on duke Radio, for entire game (pre, game and post). K was clearly upset after the game, he barely had a voice. K said "We did not compete". "Tried to compete in the last 12 minutes, but StJohn had their confidence and their game was in sync.
The Bigs allowed 50 points in the paint. Did not defend the basket, or take Charges. DID not compete.
Steve Lavin is on via phone, on the Dan Patrick show. Red Storm go away.

I didn't hear the post game, but I'd bet the farm Coach K didn't blubber around in the "poor me" mode or throw anybody under the bus.

You can't place the blame solely on the bigs on defense. Frequently there was one post defender under the basket trying to defend 2-3 players that had either come in via the back-door or had just slipped their defender one way or the other on the wings. Guards and wings could not stay with their assignments and our press was awful.DevilWearsPrada2.0 wrote:I had on duke Radio, for entire game (pre, game and post). Re: Duke @ St. John's
Though the only Blue Devil involved today may be Dick Groat, I'm reviving this because I'm watching St John's take on Pittsburgh right now. Pitt is really good. The home team is really good, too. I'm much more objective in my viewpoint today without a 'dog in this fight'.
St John's has some bad losses this year. I see how they've cost themselves by a lot of playing out of control with the ball. They are unranked. I'll say that again. They are unranked. The Storm outplayed our guys and today, they are outplaying Pitt. The score is even (Pitt by 1 at half) but that can be attributed to some bad calls, on target 3s by Pitt with a hand in their face and 2 technicals against the johnnies. I'm no Lavin fan but the man has correctly determined the style his team has to play to have the best chance for success. He has taught them zone defense very effectively. Speed he can't teach, but how to use their blinding transition play is well taken.
Unranked? Unrank this pollsters! You are missing the boat. The way I see this bunch going at this point, is that if they lose any more, it'll be because they will have beaten themselves. This starting five can take it to the limit with anybody. I'm not totally sure I want to have to play them again this season...at least, not without Kyrie to counterbalance their speed. At this point, to think they aren't worthy of top 25 ranking is ludicrous.
Can you tell I'm impressed?

...and they won again.
Who is ripping them off for a spot in the rankings?

The Johnnies will definitely be ranked when the new list comes out on Monday. I can't imagine them being left out.captmojo wrote:Who is ripping them off for a spot in the rankings?

Re: Duke @ St. John's
Biggest problem I see with St. Johns is that they are a completely different team on the road than at home. And as we all know, they don't play tournament games in your gym. Of course the Big EastSPN tournament will be held at the Garden so I wouldn't be surprised of a deep run by the Johnnies at all.

Re: Duke @ St. John's
Home/road splits often aren't very good predictors of tournament performance, though. Neutral-site games do tend to sort out the wheat from the chaff. Say what you will about the Big East, but it's undeniably rugged as hell, and the Johnnies in the Sweet 16 wouldn't surprise me one bit. I will almost certainly pick them to win at least one tournament game. Their region, I think will be important...if they get shipped out to Denver or Tucson, they could be in trouble. Closer to home, I think they'd be quite dangerous, and I think they have a good opportunity to finish very strongly and get a decent seed somewhere in the east (the eastern portion of the country, not necessarily the East Region). Especially since, as you've noted, they'll be playing their conference tournament on their home court, they could be a classic example of a team "peaking at the right time". Coupled with at least three wins against top-10 teams, they should be a confident team come NCAA time. They'll be an interesting squad to watch in March.robertduke32 wrote:Biggest problem I see with St. Johns is that they are a completely different team on the road than at home. Let me recant my earlier post about the Johnnies only able to play big time on the road. Hardy is OUTSTANDING and they are rolling right now...

Re: Duke @ St. John's
This bunch was playing well enough to be a ranked team a long time ago. Lest there be any doubt, they are better than any damned, barely in #25.
