Good night, sleep tight, and pleasant dreams to you....(that's the start of the farewell song for Lawrence Welk, which I'm STILL subjected to when I visit Mom. Probably why I'm so warped.captmojo wrote:Ahhhhh, ya got a million of 'em. ;)lawgrad91 wrote:Good night Mrs. Calabash, wherever you are.

I was FORCED to watch that polka-shit sound violation, when I was but a wee capt, in order to defer me from rock n' roll and be exposed to the pleasures of so-called 'real music'. My son refers it to the 'days before entertainment'.
Big band music is actually pretty cool, especially for dancing.lawgrad91 wrote:I KNEW I had a brother out there somewhere!captmojo wrote:Did my parents secretly raise you?lawgrad91 wrote:

Seriously, my parents got married late, and then they were told they couldn't have any children. Apparently I was a later in life surprise. Dad's idea of music was what he'd heard in the Navy in WW2, Frank Sinatra and the like (I think he secretly liked the Grand Ole Opry as well). Mom's taste was even older, if such a thing were possible.
My musical tastes are pretty eclectic, but don't really delve into the "champagne music" realm.
FWIW, DD, we went to hear the Jimmy Dorsey band in downtown WS last year. Also, if I begin to dance, I can no longer be the designated driver.devildeac wrote:Big band music is actually pretty cool, especially for dancing.![]()
Cool. We went to see the Glenn Miller Orchestra in Greensboro last year and danced to them twice at the Grove Park Inn during Big Band Weekend last January and this year, too.lawgrad91 wrote:FWIW, DD, we went to hear the Jimmy Dorsey band in downtown WS last year. Sweet dreams are made of these, who am I to disagree?
I've traveled the world and the seven seas, Everybody's looking for something....
Not technically a "good night" song, but the one I had in mind would require more typing.![]()
Personally, I enjoy singing the blessing "God is Great, God is Good. . ." to the Jeopardy theme song.lawgrad91 wrote:Now it's time to say good-bye to all our fam-i-lee
M-I-C see ya real soon!
K-E-Y Why? Because we like you!
M-O-U-S-E.
Random bedtime trivia: you can sing the words to "Amazing Grace" to the Mickey Mouse Club theme song. Also to the theme song from "Gilligan's Island" and (my personal favorite) to "The House of the Rising Sun."
Good night.
I'm going to have insomnia trying to put those words to those songs. Damn you!lawgrad91 wrote:Now it's time to say good-bye to all our fam-i-lee

Now it's time to say good-bye to Jed and all his kin,
He would like to thank you folks for kindly stoppin in.
You're all invited back next week to this locality,
To have a heapin' helpin' of our hospitality.
