There are a few factors that come into play here. First off, they are creating a position for me and are still in the process of determining exactly what said position will be. Second, almost everyone in their department will be away next week at a fairly major conference. Third, things move at a seemingly glacial pace at my former place of employment. All this, combined with potential future boss' busy travel schedule, make for slow progress. In any event, from what I do know, I will be talking with everyone in their department who does any sort of work in my field. This sounds like what typically happens for a faculty position of some sort. All in all, I think this is somewhat normal for academia. Lavabe can chime in with his experience, as can any other academicians in da house.
When I told BGS that I had an interview there next month, she was excited. Apparently her boss asked the reason for the rush; she told him that if they didn't move quickly someone else would snatch me up.
We're all still on alert. Sounds promising from what you're telling us. Do you have any fingernails left?

Frankly, I thought it was moving fast, considering they want you. If it involves six or more departments at a university, it's going to take time. I think most universities are using Skype interviews more often, especially before you actually invite someone to campus.
When ILoveJimmy got her IT job last year, the timetable was very much as you described, Windsor.

What are your temperatures like?
I had to scrape ice from the Mini Cooper this morning, and the tire pressure indicator came on so I had to stop for air.

88F was the high today. When I left for work this morning my house temperature was 73F. It was 77F when I got home from work at 7. It was about 86 then. So, I'm guessing it didn't come on, but temps were higher Sunday and it didn't come on then. My thermostat is usually at 78-79F when I'm not home.

Minor correction: my upcoming trip is an invited seminar, code for "soft interview."

If the Alamo is a national historic landmark, why not put an ymbrella over it?
