Black Top-New Glarus Brewing
The last of the haul from Lavabe's leftovers 'fridge in Lexington last month. If I had not read the label, I'd have been real surprised with this one. It is a black IPA, a relatively new style. Even so, I'm still surprised as the pour was a very dark ruby-brown with a generous one finger head. Scents of resin and pine along with cocoa. Tasted the same with a hint of grapefruit in the finish. Almost like a sourdough/pumpernickel bread. I'd guess a two or three hop blend with a generous amount of black or chocolate malts instead of or in addition to the usual pale and crystal varieties. No official IBU to be found but I'd guess 60-70 range and the ABV is 6.9% from ratebeer and not listed on the New Glarus site. Very nice variation on the traditional IPA.

It's brewed based on Voodoo Doughnuts' Memphis Mafia doughnut. I'd include a picture but looks like it's copyrighted. Go to the Voodoo Doughnuts website, already linked on the (obscene) "Please Identify" thread, and read about some of their creations.devildeac wrote:Alright, who's ready to try one of these:

Re: Ymm, Beer!
I had a Bud LIte Lime last night. Since I don't really know the proper way to review a beer so I will just say that if, in the future, it came to choice to a choice between a cold bottle of Bud Lite Lime and a cold bottle of water - I'd take the water. The only reason I would take the other option would be for an alcohol buzz.

We are not just getting more fine visitors to this thread. We are educating them about fine beer and "fake" beer products . If you want the buzz, there are hundreds and hundreds of good beers from which to choose and so many different styles, too.DukieInKansas wrote:I had a Bud LIte Lime last night. My options were Bud Lite Lime and Bud Lite. I decided to try something I hadn't had before. I even told him my friends on the board would want me to try it and post a review.devildeac wrote:We are not just getting more fine visitors to this thread. Re: Ymm, Beer!
And glad you did, too! We went to a Durham Bulls game recently as guests and we had a nice ball park spread of food. When I got to the end of the line and asked what beer was in the keg and the answer was budlite, I turned around and headed for the soda cooler and selected a bottle of water and a Diet Pepsi .DukieInKansas wrote:My options were Bud Lite Lime and Bud Lite. Tasted pretty darned good but I lost the pix, oh darn!
TANGERINE WHEAT ALE
ABV 5.0%
A refreshing citrus ale, Lost Coast Tangerine Wheat combines our Lost Coast Harvest Wheat with natural tangerine flavors. Brewed with a combination of wheat and crystal malts, and finished with Perle hops.

Another convert to the house of beer!
Lost Coast is a good brewery but I have never had this brew. Sounds like a very pleasant spring/summer ale.

St. Terese's Pale Ale-Highland Brewing
Drink local! Well, sort of as the brewery is in Asheville. This was one of five different brews in an oddly divided 12 pack medley from these folks who are a wee bit different according to their box and/or web site.
Poured a clear golden with a bit of flowers and pine in the nose and palate, blended nicely with light bready, caramel maltiness. Weighing in with IBU of 24 and ABV of 5.1%, it made a nice six ounce sample with seven layer dip and conversation pre-cookout tonight.

Re: Ymm, Beer!
Gaelic Ale-Highland Brewing
Drink local #2!
Poured a bit darker than the pale ale I just reviewed, so it was a medium amber and had a bit more piney nose and palate with a bit more caramel maltiness as the IBU were a bit stiffer at 30 and the ABV likewise at 5.6% Technically, it's an amber ale, I guess, but is kind of a blend between that and a Scottish style ale with a hint of smokiness in the aromas and tastes. Solid brew to accompany the pasta and fruit salads, burgers and Hawaiian teriyaki chicken. Another six ounce sample shared with family. I also had a 12 ounce bottle of this about mid-week during an after hours office meeting.
