I read her post with great interest. I also discovered her post, however, due to the funky name that I was sure was an old school spammer that happily we have not seen any more of. :D
Not surprised one bit.

ahhhhh, see ya!

Did anybody see this story of the woman that ran the 800 meters while 34 weeks pregnant? Wow.

Last year there was the same raise, and theoretically new ACA's will now make the same money that new assistant Public Defenders make. Meanwhile, the office is on a shoestring budget. We are supposed to make double side copies of everything possible, use the back sides of papers once whatever is on the front side is used up, pay 6 cents a sheet for our personal copies, etc., etc., etc.

We get a letter today from Jethro. Not a memo, a three page letter. (Other than Awbrey the newbie, there were no other ACA's in the office, as Midget Perv and Randy the Genius are on vacation.) It details the fact that we are getting this raise, and how hard he worked to make sure he got it, and how thoughtful Varnish County is for not sucking up our raise into what they pay us, since they cover an average of $23,000 of our salaries. (An out-and-out misrepresentation, because there is no way in hell they are paying 23K of my salary. He is including their paying our personal health insurance, which since they pay every county employee's, I don't see how somehow that benefits just us. Plus, Bob told me their help was significantly less than that. But I digress.)

The reason for his three page memo is that he expects, by July 11, for the four of us to write letters to the appropriate state delegates, state senators, and the county manager to thank each of them for his/her insuring that we got said raise. The letters are supposed to be specific to each person and let the person know what we will do with the money, and helpfully included suggestions such as student loans, helping our family members, etc. And we are to make two copies of each letter (except to the county manager, where one copy will do.) It also listed the addresses of each person and how we should address them in salutation.

There are SIXTEEN senators and delegates. So, instead of the brief to the Court of Appeals, instead of trying to figure out which videos I want to charge on in my child porn case, I will be writing letters. Seventeen of them. And making copies. And placing them in envelopes and mailing said envelopes. So for the four of us, that's an entire pack of letterhead paper, thirty two dollars worth of stamps (plus, I assume, a large, economy sized envelope to send the copies to the Virginia Commonwealth's Attorney's Association, and extra stamps for those), and countless hours of make work.

I plan to say, "Dear Senator (blank), thank you for my extra money. I plan to use it to hire male prostitutes and purchase methamphetamine." :9f:

Absolutely. copies should be made early and often (even if they charge you 6 cents :D )

If it is possible to use smart phones to document settings on the instrument I would do that to.

Dear Senator _________________________,

I will use the additional pittance to self publish my first book detailing the hilarious escapades of the good citizens of the Varnish Zone and their interactions with our legal system as well as the inner workings of our office. I will happily send you an autographed copy.

Thank you, Windsor. That is a fine idea. I wasn't too keen on the prostitutes and meth anyway. I know the people who make the meth :ymsick: and having never paid for male companionship there is no reason to start now. :9f:

Ooops, my error. I misunderstood your reply. :ymblushing: :ymblushing:

We saw so many of those in the early days of CTN before you improved the security here. I thought another crackpot had filtered through. So glad Turk got busted and we found out the true identity of isuf;bnae[rn.

I was out all day (jury duty), but I just got a call from BGS. Boris is having instrument problems again. From the sound of things, someone (***cough***BM***cough***) has been messing with the instrument and it is not working correctly. Strange that it would work well for 3.5 days, until Monday morning, and then not work any more (***cough***BM***cough). We need a f-ing nanny cam in the lab.

Oh, I should mention that we lost 3.5 days worth of analysis for a paying external collaborator. It's a project that BM is not involved with, and it's not the first time she has sabotaged the analysis of their samples. No direct proof that she did it, either. I will say it again: we need a f-ing nanny cam in the lab.

A lot of colleagues of mine really love to use camera traps to capture images of rare and endangered wildlife. I think you can get a camera trap for like $200. :-B

We have TONS of people who use them for game cameras and cheap surveillance cameras. They aren't terribly expensive. :9f:

The camera may not be expensive, but getting fired would be. I am pretty sure there is policy against that kind of thing. I know the last two places I've worked have had policies expressly forbidding recording (audio or visual) a co-worker. Dummy cameras are a pittance.......just make sure you 'wire' them. Motion sensor lights are always fun too. Hopefully she will not be there long enough to need to come up with an extensive security protocol. It may be possible for RR or The Boss to get permission to put a security cam in. Given the loss of analysis for a collaborator it may be justified.

Can access to the instrument be secured any better? Any way to tell who was in the building? If you have to use a badge of any kind to get in and out there is a record.
