Thanks for sharing! I remember going to Gettysburg when I was small. I was a history nerd (guess I still am) and it was awe-inspiring.

If I click on the picture, I see it oriented correctly. No idea why the thumbnail in the post itself is sideways.

FWIW, my father's last stop in the National Park Service was as the Superintendent of Gettysburg. He had to take a pay cut to go there, but as a lifetime Civil War historian, it was his dream job. I'm glad you got a chance to go.

As an aside, I personally have mixed feelings about some of those monuments, including that one, given what they glorify and how and why they were funded. But it is still a great experience to go see them, and I highly recommend going to visit. They are very much artifacts worthy of preservation. I would like to see some interpretive changes to the displays to show the context surrounding the memorials themselves, but you'll never hear me advocate for tearing down or removing any of these statues. These soldiers for the most part died for the wrong reasons, but they should still be remembered and their memories treated with respect and dignity.

I took pictures of lots of monuments both Union and Confederate. Here I am in front of the Minnesota Monument on Cemetery Ridge. The 1st Minnesota Regiment played a key role, at horrific human costs, in defending the Union line on July 2, 1863.

This is the last photo I will post so I don’t flood the website:

I love the pics, personally, and am enjoying the posts, regardless of which side is represented. I'm also noticing that you have a much more svelte look than the last time I saw you. Congrats. I wish I could same the same about myself.

Good morning. Enjoyed the bball banquet last night! Saw several TB’CC members there too! ~O) :9f:

Here’s a bit of roster news I gleaned last night: Blakes and Schutt are both planning to return next year! Subject to change, of course, but that’s the expectations as of now. :9f:
