I've lived in so many places that my accents have basically canceled each other out, though I do use vernacular from almost everywhere I've lived. It's funny, northerners think I'm southern, southerners think I'm northern, east coasters think I'm west coast cause I use dude once in a while, and west coasters think I'm from back east. It's pretty funny, actually. I'd love to meet one of those lingual specialists like that guy in My Fair Lady and see where he/she would place me. Some of those guys can supposedly tell you within a few blocks where you grew up if you're from one of the burroughs of New York.

Every once in a while, I get called out for being southern, but not too often. With so many transplants, the Atlanta accent is considerably watered down. I must, however, quibble with your characterization of "dude" as a west coast thing. I use that word all the time, dude (and that is one word in which I naturally draw the 'U' sound in proper southern fashion). In fact, a certain vertically imposing, lemur-studying crazietalker has taken me to task a time or seven for "duding" him.
Maybe it's the way I say dude. I don't say it in the proper southern way, I say it in the proper southern CALIFORNIA way. ;) Maybe it just started being real popular in Cali.

And I gotta say, it feels damngood to, for the second preseason running, be this excited about Duke football.
And this is to say nothing of the Atlanta Motherfuckin' Falcons, who also remain on the rise. :-bd

Apparently, a while ago, the term "Joe" was used as often as the current term "Dude," at least among the teachers of English in Africa. Think about "Joe Six-Pack" and "Joe Cool" (and now, even the corrupted "Joe the Plumber").

What, no Stella Artois?

Does this mean that Busch Light qualifies as premium brew in Europe?
Throughout the UK, Budweiser was considered a premium. And they served it at the same temp as all the other beers, in other words, way too warm to be any good.

No need to duck. We survived the FIGHT CLUB dudes over yonder, and we're together on this one too. If they throw things at us, they'll hit the tall guy first. ;)
FIGHT CLUB proponents are still here. You still need to see it. :ymbringiton:

My grandfather called everybody "Joe", especially if he couldn't remember their name. He was born in 1905 and grew up in Montana. Anyway, it's part of the reason my parents named me that.

Hey everyone. Thought I'd drop in and say hi. It's late here so I'll be brief.

Two days in London seeing sights. Two days at the Univ. of Surrey in class. Lots of beer, bangers, mash, fish and chips, english breakfast, and shepherd's pie under the belt. Plenty of walking to work it off. Meeting some real nice people from UK, India, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, South Africa, Greece and France. Three more days of class here, a day seeing the English countryside on Saturday, the back home on Sunday.

It rains here pretty much randomly every day.

Off to bed. Check out the pics on Facebook.

Glad to hear your having a good trip, outta start your own thread. I did the UK when I was about 12 or so with my family; a vacation I'll never forget.

I blame San Francisco. And art. Sigh...I gotta go paint some more. (I walk away towards my brushes as the post gap grows ever wider.)
