Who is the only competitor in the Montreal Olympic games to not be required to submit to a gender (sex) test.
That might have upset the monarchy's succession plan if they'd learned that Princess Anne had equine DNA.

I've got something that's been driving me nuts these past few months. I've been working in downtown Philly, watching the human pageant in all its weird and wonderful forms. Going to and fro on the train, or grabbing a sandwich at lunchtime, I see these well-dressed, classy looking, professional women of all ages schlepping around the city in flip-flops that even the young Turks would find too casual and sloppy. Yes, I know that quality pointy-toed shinkickers are too expensive and sometimes uncomfortable for sunrise-to-sundown wear, and yes, I know the ladies are changing into their professional shoes when they get back to their desks. I still don't care.

I was going to carry this little cross of mine all by myself, but then I tripped (pun intended) over this article.

Money quote:
"We’re talking about grown adults in affluent societies—people presumably in possession of at least one pair of actual shoes—who see fit to navigate the grimy sidewalks of large cities shod only in a loosely flapping, half-inch-thick slip of rubber. Those people—you, if you’re among them—need to face the reality that you are, in essence, going barefoot, and it’s grossing the rest of us out."

There. I said it. Hate the message, not the messenger...

I feel your pain! We have a dress code in our office, and it includes, "no flip flops." The closest our women come to wearing flip flops in our office is those Jack Rogers sandals. They are more expensive than my dress pumps.

So I didn't see the Emmy Awards, but last night, I saw a commercial for SNL, featuring Tina Fey. Umm... what really happened, Statler? :-o

<bump>

The Grammy's are a snark-rich environment. As Ringo Starr sleepwalked through "Photograph", one of the young Turks said, "He looks like a Muppet."

This is my favorite time of year for snarking. I've watched all of the the red carpet arrival shows and the awards shows. The people at the Grammys are such easy snark targets. It's like shooting fish in a barrel.

Take Sara Bareilles, for instance. Does she own a hairbrush? That frock looks like my grandmother's guest room bedspread has been repurposed. I'm not even going to comment on the red accessories.

OMG, I love Cyndi Lauper, and the only reason she pulls off this get-up is because she is a rock-n-roll star!

On anyone else, it would be absolutely dreadful.

All I know is that Sara Bareilles and Carole King sang better than any other collaboration last night. She could have worn pajamas, and I wouldn't have cared. Girl can sing... that more than qualifies her for a pass on snarking.
