A very heathy attitude, to be sure.

Here's an example of a great service done for the family.

I love babies. I got to hold my friend's newly adopted daughter last night. I'm even willing to change dirty diapers. I don't mind them as toddlers or elementary age or teen age, etc. I'm probably nuts that way. My sister's kids have spoiled me - they have always been great kids. Plus the youth at church are great examples.

Since I don't have kids of my own, I'm glad I have friends that let me love their kids.

The shower was a mixed bag. They did not play stupid games (plus). The food was served on frou frou paper products (minus). Despite having ample room indoors, the festivities were outside on the lanai by the pool - it was 90 yesterday, apparently no one knew we were going to be in the sun, and we were all sweating like pigs - including the poor dressed in black slacks expectant mother. (BIG minus) the favors were were small jars of HOMEMADE jams - strawberry, blackberry and an orange marmalade (PLUS). The mother to be has apparently been stocking up at yard sales and consignment stores (smart) not smart was buying items she registered for, resulting in duplication (minus) being vocal about the duplication was rude (I give her half a pass because she was miserable in the heat). (MINUS)

The killer was the dog - the hostess has an old dog (14) so riddled with arthritis it can barely move. When it wants to stand up she cries and the owner lifts her. This dog is clearly in agony. If vet care can't relieve some of the pain than the hard decision needs to be made to end the poor things suffering. I have made this choice for my dogs, and I know how hard it is but you do what you have to do. I damn near cried every time I looked at the poor dog.

Next baby shower I will politely decline the invite, and send a lovely gift.

Ugh.

I love other people's dogs. I think they are great for a quick chase and maybe a cuddle but when it comes time to clean up after them, I'd rather somebody else do it.

My son's friends keep telling me I'm a 'cool mom'. And I keep telling them to go ahead and think that but they still can't drink beer at my house.

Not doing P90X today. I had to mow the lawn. We have 1/2 acre + now, and it's all grass. Plus there's a ginormous hill out back. It was 85 degrees out, it took me over two hours, and I'm done for the day. I figure that counts as a good cardio workout, right?

I have a grammar question, and I can't think of a better place to ask it. Is "addicting" a real, acceptable word? It seems to me as though people are using "addicting" when they should be using "addictive." For example, "The game Words with Friends is addicting." One of my family members used the word "addicting" in this manner, and everyone jumped on me when I corrected the person who did it. It doesn't seem to me that these words should be interchangeable. Am I missing something?

I was about to offer Grammar Girl's take on the matter. She is correct; as are you, Arkie. "Addicting" is the participle of an entirely different sense of the word "addict." Addicting basically means "annoying."
So the next time someone makes this error and/or people jump on you for correcting them, you should tell them how addicting it is that they don't know how to properly deploy the word "addictive."

Most people do: grammatical conventions be damned!
