Oops, definitely just spelled Apolo with two L's. Wilson, I'm surprised you didn't point that out.
I'm sure you noticed it though.

Anybody could wipe out at any time, though...that track is crazy. The home Canadians have already crashed out, as have the traditionally strong Brits, in spectacular fashion. The Americans aren't out of it, and it's nice for them to be even in the conversation, as they really haven't been for quite some time. The most publicity they've generated in a quarter century was when Herschel Walker joined the team for the Albertville games and the pair finished a respectable seventh.Rolvix wrote:Achtüng!
Here comes the two German teams...
Meh.
Back to skating.

I'm trying to be less of a grammatical imperialist these days, lest throaty swoop through here and chide me again.Rolvix wrote:Oops, definitely just spelled Apolo with two L's. Wilson, I'm surprised you didn't point that out.

Short-track speed skating is incredibly entertaining sport. If they televised World Cup meets a couple of times a month, I'd definitely watch them.

Apolo is incredibly entertaining to watch even when he's fighting for third place! Those pesky Koreans...wilson wrote:Short-track speed skating is incredibly entertaining sport. If they televised World Cup meets a couple of times a month, I'd definitely watch them.

Hahaha yeah... I think he's the only one that actually minds it. I, for one, don't like to make the same mistake twice. Especially when I don't know I'm making it!wilson wrote:I'm trying to be less of a grammatical imperialist these days, lest throaty swoop through here and chide me again.Rolvix wrote:Oops, definitely just spelled Apolo with two L's. As far as I can remember NONE of my teachers have ever actually taught grammar. If I hadn't read so much I might be even worse off than I am.

Possibly the best part of short track is that there are no judges scores involved....

Truer words have never been spoken. I couldn't consistently watch a sport in which the scores were decided on by judges!DukeUsul wrote:Possibly the best part of short track is that there are no judges scores involved....
Can you imagine basketball being one of those sports?!?! It would be terrible!
Oh... Duke comes up short once again in the first round of the NCAA's. It seems like the judges just absolutely hate them! Straight 0's across the board. unc, on the other hand, has been guaranteed their 50th National Championship!

But more in the referee 'let's make sure everything is fair and no rules are broken' sense than in an awarding points and determining who wins sense.

In the previous Winter games, the South Koreans probably would have disagreed with this statement.colchar wrote:CameronBornAndBred wrote:True..but there is a surprising amount of judging involved.DukeUsul wrote:Possibly the best part of short track is that there are no judges scores involved....

Although the solo events have been a LOT of fun, the relays are just INSANE!!
VERY high on the BADASS quotient. China, Canada, Korea, US, and France will be skating in it.

Ski Jumping from Saturday...
There's one Swiss jumper, Simon Ammann, and then there's everyone else. They had to move the start down the hill a bit so that he could land on the slope.
THAT'S WACK!!
On Saturday, Dude won his 4th gold medal in jumping.

Nice to see Brian Shimer coaching the US team. Also nice to see that Bodine/NASCAR sled.wilson wrote:Anybody could wipe out at any time, though...that track is crazy. Any idea why the bobsledders and the skeleton athletes are in the same team organization, but the lugers have their own organization? THAT'S nuts.

The USA-Canada game tonight is running on MSNBC. This is not a widely carried channel on standard cable packages, and I'm not sure how many sports bars will really have a channel like that either.

That's unfathomable up here.

Are they televising the Men's Hockey against Canada live? If not, what a huge opportunity missed.
