Harrumph. :9f:

After a week from hell of court and a week in the 757 in training, it's good to be back here, where here means in CTN (not here meaning the salt mine.)

Back is improving. Not 100% but better. Thanks for all the vibes and good wishes.

Good morning. ~O) :9f:

My drive back to Greensboro from Raleigh yesterday evening got "interesting" just east of Efland (Hi VDB!). I suddenly felt and heard a loud thumping sound as I drove. "What the hell is that? I can't be good." I looked at the dashboard for a TPMS tire pressure warning but nothing showed. After 15 or 20 seconds I heard something fly off a tire (???) with a little pop, and suddenly the road was smooth and quiet again. A few seconds later the TPMS warning came on and it showed my right rear tire at 21 psi, then the pressure disappeared and I just had the warning indicator. Guess I had a tire going flat. I wanted to get to the next exit (157, about 3 miles ahead) and pull into a gas station. Driving started to get a little "squirmy" so I pulled into the truck weigh station, to the far right lane where there was some parking just before the building. Got out and looked at what used to be my right rear tire - I had about 2 inches of sidewall on both sides of the rim, but no tire. Wow! I went up to the building to tell the folks there what was going on, and one Highway Patrol trooper came out and I told him about the tire. I have a temp spare and decided I would put that on to drive home, rather than calling AAA and waiting an hour for them to get there. I walked back to the car and the trooper followed a few seconds later. He helped me unload the cargo area to get to the spare, and then he changed the tire for me - he said it was faster for him to do it rather than just help me! I have changed a few tires before so I could have done it myself, but I didn't interrupt him! It took about 10 minutes and then I put the blown tire/rim in the cargo area, but all my stuff back in, and drove home at 50 mph (with flashers on as traffic wizzed by at 75+. This morning I'll go to the local Hyundai dealer to get everything checked out and get a new tire. Bummer. But I was very lucky to not have had an accident when the tire blew.

Ozzie, so glad you are okay. It could have been so much worse.

How nice of the trooper to change the tire for you. :9f:

Good morning.

Glad an accident was avoided, Ozzie. Hope your wheel is ok so you only have to replace the tire.

Good morning.

The vehicle is new, less than 2 months old and ~3700 miles on it and the tires. I took it to my local Hyundai dealer, where I've bought (or leased) 4 vehicles from in the 6 1/2 years I've lived in Greensboro. So I was hoping for a warranty replacement, plus I got their tire/rim warranty package when I bought the SUV. I got there and the young, new service writer took my info and moved the car into the back lot until she could work it in after the daily appointments she had on their list. When I asked how long it might take, she didn't know. Fortunately, the service manager, whom I have known since the first time I walked in there in 2013 and talk with often when there (they do my oil changes - rarely needed anything else), walked by and I said "Hi Dale", he asked me how I was doing and I told him about the blown tire and that it was sitting in the back lot. He said, let's go take a look at it and we did. After a "Wow", he said "let's get this right in and I'll get you back on the road ASAP." He checked to see if they had that tire in stock, and they didn't. We looked in the new car sales lot and found another Santa Fe with the same rims and tires. He took that vehicle into the shop and SWAPPED the rim and tire onto my car. He discovered that he had to then swap the TPMS sensor out of my old rim and put it in the new rim, because apparently the computer and the sensor recognize each other. He's going to go to Hyundai to see if they'll warranty the tire as defective and if not he'll go to the secondary warranty company. I paid $0 and was out the door 2 hours after getting there! :happy-bouncyblue: :9f:

Good morning. Nine days until kick-off!

That was quite the experience Ozzie, glad you came through it safely.
