Only if that was your life savings.

What did you buy?

Did you need a mattress? Will you sleep better and not be sore in the morning? If "yes," then you needed a mattress and you chose wisely. Most people buy inferior mattresses and keep them way too long.

If I'm gonna spend that money on a mattress, it needs to have wheels and be able to drive me to the store for a midnight snack.

You, too, will get older and frail. A comfortable mattress is a wonderful thing. :D

I didn't actually pay $3000 for the mattress as it was on sale. In the end, I got it for $850 which is a hell of a savings. When I mentioned "I bought a $3000 mattress" I was posting quickly and didn't explain things well. My comment was more about the fact that I think the original $3000 price for the mattress is obscene!

A local department store (a large Canadian chain and Sears' biggest competitor up here) had a sale on mattresses so the one I got was down from $3000 to just over $1000. Since my parents were also talking about getting a new mattress I met them at the store and they bought one too (it was actually my Mom who told me about the sale). Because we bought them together they gave us a bigger discount and I got some extra money off because I only needed the mattress and didn't get a box spring (I have a European style bed with bed boards so I have no need for a box spring). In the end, because of the discounts for buying them together and for my not taking the box spring, I only paid $850 for the mattress which, considering the original price, is an amazing deal. It is one of those Euro pillow top things which will be a vast improvement over my current mattress which is simply foam (not memory foam but still high quality). I've had that mattress forever and honestly cannot remember the last time I had a good night's sleep on it so it was high time I got a new one.

But again, my comment, had I been more clear, was more about the original cost of the mattress being $3000 and me thinking that was obscene. Then again, I haven't shopped for a mattress in forever so what do I know about prices? It just seems overly expensive to me is all.

My parents offered to buy the mattress for me but I haven't taken them up on that offer. I'm not sure if I will. Since I have just quit my PhD and am currently looking for a job (still haven't heard anything about the one I interviewed for at the end of last week) I have to be conservative with money until I do get a job. Financially it makes sense to accept their offer but I'm not really sure I want to as I would rather pay for things myself. I'll talk to them about it later and will decide then.

Yeah the original price, before taxes, was $2998 and I ended up paying $848, again before taxes.

They also refunded the delivery charge. Store policy is to charge it so they simply refunded that same amount.

ETA: At the original price and after taxes the mattress would have cost $3387.74 but I ended up paying $958.24 (tax included) for a total savings of $2429.50.

I'm satisfied with my bank. A couple hiccups over the years, but definitely satisfied.

Am watching "Being John Malkovich" right now - streaming it through my Wii (Netflix). Not sure what I think. Very weird.

How hard could it be for them to send a Certificate of Satisfaction to the Register of Deeds?

If I wanted a pear, I'd have eaten a pear, probably a Bartlet. Why do they think that pear apples are any better than a pear? /:)

If you registered yours, I wonder if the cops could have Garmin report the serial number to them if it gets applied to for the recall, and then could just follow the mailing address for the replacement and catch them?

They'd be nominated for the dumbest criminals show if they got caught that way. =))
