Gas was my biggest expenditure on the trip to California, so I was estimating about $4,000 - $5,000 for the entire move if I packed everything myself. Shipping isn't an option due to the oversize dining room table and chairs and a moving/small freight company wasn't much cheaper so I was left with the option of storing things while I saved up my pennies for a small freight company to move everything after I made the drive.

I'm glad that I had a friend with enough space in his garage to store everything for me.
Moving is indeed expensive. Of course, you might some day return to CA, and then you'll be glad you didn't move all that stuff (twice).
Snowballs have a better chance in Hell than me moving back to California.

Off to Max's ball game in a little while. Back to Efland tomorrow. I think my theme song should be "On the Road Again". :)) :))

Off to deal with a totally crazy man this morning. If I'm not back before noon, send out the cavalry! And if you see this, send a few vibes my way.

This guy claims his neighbors pointed a gun at him while he peacefully walked his dog. They claim he threatened their son with releasing his pit bull, and they didn't point the gun, just said they would shoot the dog if it attacked their kid.

He is probably just a nut, but frankly from some of the voicemails he's left, he's a little bit scary.

At the gate waiting on my plane home. Sue and I went to Cirque Du Soleil's Mystere last night, after eating a ton of food at Treasure Island's buffet. I'm still full. The show was awesome, so much fun and a great way to end Vegas. Looking forward to getting back home.

I'm watching a wren collect dog hair off the back deck. It's an amazing feat because it's not like we have tons of dog hair out there. This little guy is just walking around picking up one stray hair at a time. He's been at it for at least thirty minutes and now has a beakful of little white hairs. I am thoroughly impressed with his patience and dedication.

He can deliver it to the storage unit with all the rest of the hair folks have collected to sop up BP's disaster in the Gulf.

Give him two years and he just might get it done. Sadly, that could be faster than BP or our governments response. :(

Probably faster and cheaper than the government....

Back from dealing with the crazy man. My boss (who is sending this guy a STERN letter not to call and harass the office anymore) was concerned enough to have a big, strapping deputy escort me to court, without my asking. Justice was served, which means the nice defendants were acquitted.

Thanks for the vibes, Bjornolf!

The Pixies are going on tour again. I missed them in the 90s, and in 2004. Will be doing my damnedest to make sure we can get these tickets now.

I hate moving. I vowed to never move again, that is, to move myself. I was doing pretty good until I found out the cost for the cross-country move from California. My kitchen, dining room, and library are still in California. <sigh>
How much did your move cost? Not counting 16 months of storage fees, my move from CA cost $11K.

And, I might add, it was worth every thin dime to leave ExLax and return to North Carolina. There are things I miss about California, but he is not one of them.

I've been here 5 days now, and do you think he has shown his face yet?
