Brown-Eyed Girl

I was trying to remember popular / notorious / famous "rooms" on campus and not coming up with much due to senility...

Commons Room
Gothic Chat Room
Oak Room

etc etc etc

Maybe the younger alums can do better...

If we want to go that route, then I'll nominate Maxwell House. Have a cuppa joe and chat for a while!

Here's some more, and let's go in a different direction.

Blue and White Room (for those who don't care for "The Pits")
Ivy Room ("where it's fun to be nice to people")
The Hideaway
Satisfaction
The Bullpen (or anything with "Bull" in the title)

Those who never knew the Dope on either campus missed out on a noteworthy campus experience.

One reason to consider the Dope Shop for the name for the chat room is the historical significance.

How about a name which honors one of the professors friendly to athletes and the athletics dept. Three from the poli sci department come to mind: William Hayes Simpson, Robert Stanley Rankin and Allen Kornberg.

Another possibility could be to honor Dr. Frank Bassett, longtime team physician and founder of an informal mentoring program which grew to be the current day Bassett Society. (Dr. Bassett started out by mentoring football players who wanted to become doctors, especially orthopedists. The process developed to such a level that all athletes interested become doctors are mentored through their undergraduate years. Alumni now return annually on a football weekend for a conference includes lectures and presentations by well known experts in a variety of specialties. No other university has such an organization.)

Or honor a campus personality who was important to the athletic dept. such as Randolf M. Nurmi Shears. Without Nurmi's tutoring, generations of football players might not have been eligible.

Give me a . . .

well, you know.

I beg to differ. Giles House is the best choice among the dorms! It was named for the three Giles sisters, first women enrolled and graduated from Trinity/Duke in 1878.

Aycock House was named for former NC Governor Charles B. Aycock. Its twin, Jarvis, was named for former NC Governor Thomas J. Jarvis.

For those interested in Wilson House, it was named for Dean Mary Grace Wilson.

I have nightmares about that building. We may have been able to derive chemistry in a physics class, but no way in hell could I actually DO chemistry (organic anyway).

What's a place that crazies like to hang out and shoot the shit? K-ville? The Bryan Center walkway? The Quad? How about the Bench?
Lots of smack talk about my former home and discipline. :( ;)

When we remodeled our chapter room in 1975, we named it in honor of Dr. Robert S. Rankin, a brother in Phi Kappa Psi. So I vote for Robert S. Rankin. Well, not really.

Seriously, as much as Windsor and several other of the lovelies of CTN were residents of Aycock, and LOVED to chant their favorite cheer wanting an A, Y, C..., I say give it to them! =)) =)) =)) Ummm, not really.

I'd vote for Section 17 from all the names above. Really. :D

I just suggested Section 21 in the poll thread. I think it's a natural extension of Cameron.
