Re: My Dad
Thanks again to everyone. I spent lots of time with him this weekend, but unfortunately had to be back home today. (Starving artists don't get paid leave, dammit!)
While I am pretty sure he will still be there in body when I see him next, I don't expect him to be there in spirit as much, and I made the most of my opportunity yesterday to say my goodbyes. I got to hug him, and tell him that I love him while he was awake and able to respond in kind.
Afterwards, I went to his home and helped my sister and stepmom find clothes for him to wear once he leaves hospice. While choosing what we think he would appreciate, I found something for myself to wear at his memorial.
My sister found one, too. She's going to wear it around her waist as a belt.

Re: My Dad
Thank you, everyone. We are having a visitation from 11AM until 1PM on Saturday, July 16 at the Doris Duke Center in the Sarah P. Duke Gardens at 420 Anderson Street, Durham, NC 27708. Afterwards we having a private family ceremony where Dad's ashes will be placed behind an engraved brick in the gardens. We'll have a larger memorial service this Fall, I think it will be at the chapel.

Re: My Dad
Chris,
I'm sorry for your loss. May your memories bring you comfort. Know that your father will live on in you and your sister. The lessons he taught by word and deed will continue in the world as you live them out.
Love, Barbara

Re: My Dad
Duke put the university flags at half mast on campus in honor of Dad today. Loved that, I had to drive over and take a picture.
