Somehow I missed this thread yesterday. Thank goodness you're OK, Sue. Wish I could be there to help out.

Oh MAN! How awful. I have skimmed all these messages and didn't notice an explanation of how the fire started. Is it in here someplace? How long do you estimate being homeless? Hugs to you and Chloe. YOu are both troopers!
Love, Ima

Late response here  . Very, very sorry to hear of your misfortunes. Glad you are unharmed. Sending cleansing, smoke-free thoughts and prayers your way.

Not sure if anyone's ever been through a fire, but man, I can turn my head or walk in somewhere and swear I smell that smoky, charred smell, even though I'm nowhere near my apartment or my smoky stuff. My dad said this happened to him for weeks after the family business burned when I was a kid.

(Side note: Is it SMOKY or SMOKEY? Neither gets caught by spell check.)

I had to make a call to one of our clients' office that burned down in Florida. Like you say, you can't get away from that smell. In their new office, even though most of their equipment was salvaged and working ok, there was a smoke smell everywhere, and it followed you. Hope the cleanup is coming along ok.

Somehow I missed this over the weekend.

Sorry to hear about the disaster, but at least you're fine, which is the most important part.

MomofSue71 has arrived, again. One week after she left. :ymsigh:

Chloe has decided she likes my mom's bed. My mom is allergic to cats. So, being the good daughter, I covered her bed with an extra sheet from housekeeping so that my mom would be ok. This is what I found when I got back to the room this afternoon:

Chloe's a pretty kitty, but she looks evil in this picture.

I completely understand these picture, and have received that look on a number of occasions. Even in her grumpiness, she is still a cutie.

I certainly empathize with your mom. Has she asked if your air-tight kitty kontainer was damaged in the fire? =)) =)) =))

Just kidding, Sue. You know that...

Believe it or not, that's not her angry face. Not by a mile.

That's her "I just woke up" face. (-|

Did she burrow herself under the pillows? Spencer has taken to climbing under the quilt on my bed. He'll do that not only for his cat naps, but also when he is scared. Spencer really subscribes to the "if I can't see you, you can't see me" philosophy. Bless his heart, he doesn't realize I can see the lump on the bed.

I hope your temporary living quarters keep you as comfy as Chloe seems to be! She's precious. FYI, they are "The Great SMOKY Mountains", so I guess that makes it pretty official.
Love, Ima

Wow, I just found out I'm the classic case of "falling through the cracks" meets "incompetence" with my insurance company. Seems now I've been put in touch with the right people (a week and a day after the fire) who are getting things done.

Hope everything works out and life gets closer to some sense of normalcy for you soon.
