How about this line: "Duke's improvement on defense has been one of the key factors in the Blue Devils' 5-1 start, as they are the only team in the ACC that can become bowl eligible this weekend with a win."

Beat VT. :9f:
Not quite true. Duke is one of two ACC teams that can become bowl eligible this weekend with a win. Two other teams are 5-1 and one does not play this weekend ;) .

While F$U is 5 and 1, they have played (and beaten) two FCS (1-AA) teams. Only one of those wins counts toward bowl eligibility, so they have two more wins to go.

Actually, we're already bowl eligible, based on our graduation rates. (But only if there aren't enough teams with a 6-win season.)

(EDIT: So is FSU, based on this new rule.)

Very cool! DA, are you sure that FSU is eligible? Do they have a top 5 APR score?

I stand corrected. Thanks. I thought major colleges playing two 1-AA teams a year had been abandoned.

To be fair to F$U, they had no choice this year since West Virginia pulled out of their game leaving the Noles scrambling to find an opponent. Poor Savannah State stepped up to the teller's window.

Interesting article here criticizing Savannah State for being greedy dumbasses. (By your best friend, John Feinstein)
This is what Savannah State had to show for its trips to Oklahoma State and Florida State: $860,000 for the athletic department’s budget and two losses by a combined margin of 139-0, which was that “close” only because lightning struck. The yardage difference on Saturday, in a 36-minute game, was 413-28. Guess which team had the 28?
