And if you have a shot of peach vodka and schnapps, things will probably get a bit fuzzy.

Peach cobbler was a hit. Two other people brought blackberry cobbler.

I voted other because I do not like peach desserts. My Mum does make a homemade peach jam though that is absolutely sensational. Every time I am there I return one empty jar and take a new one with me. Luckily for me, she makes a year or two's supply at a time.

Blackberry cobbler would win it for me! Add ice cream and it would be even better!

Ok folks--all these peachy comments and not ONE recipe in the recipe thread. X( I'm disappointed -- peaches were on sale today and I bought a bunch to make something for the Bible study at our house tonight.

Off to the Betty Crocker book...

I'm tellin' ya! Make that peach streusel pie out of that book. I've been making it for years. It's wonderful. If you don't have the original version of the book, let me know. I'll get the recipe for you.

Send it on over. I've got the 40th anniversary (1991) edition and it sadly is without the peach streusel (or any streusel) recipe.

Thanks!!

Ima,

Can you post it here or on the recipes thread? I have the 40th anniversary edition as well.

Thanks!

Here 'tis. From the Second Edition, 1956:

Make pastry for a 9" one crust pie.
Arrange in pastry-lined pan...
4 cups quartered, peeled peaches (8 to 10)
Sprinkle over peaches ...
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 tsp nutmeg ( I go heavy on that)
Beat together, then pour over peaches and sugar ...
1 egg
2 tbsp. cream
Mix until crumbly ...
1/4 cup brown sugar (packed)
1/2 cup flour
1/4 cup soft butter
Sprinkle crumb mixture over fruit in pie pan. Bake until browned. Serve slightly warm. For an elegant garnish, pass a bowl of whipped ice cream or cultured sour cream.

Oven Temp"425
Time: 35 -45 minutes.

The first time I ate this pie it was at a bridge party at the house of one of the best cooks I ever knew. I told her I HAD to have the recipe and she replied that she had gotten it out of the cookbook I had lent her! duh.
