I don't know much about judging raw football talent, but I do know something about teenage boys and this one is a winner! I loved watching his play and his attitude last season. He's the kind of kid we love to have enrolling at Duke.

Yup. Not to mention he has a 4.6 GPA and is fluent in three languages. He'll fit right in.

I'll ask my son-in-law (Native's dad) for his opinion. He has followed the team much more closely and is more knowledgeable than I. All I know is that he's a sharp kid.

OK, so the scoop around our house on Beilinson is that he's smart, has great hands, needs to improve on blocking and can (and will) learn to run patterns better.

How's that? Sounds good to me!

In case anyone's interested, here's his highlights:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ekOT76VWPdc

As mentioned, watching him play this year, the most salient aspects of his game are his hands and his ability to get yards after catch. You'll notice in the video that it usually takes two to three defensive players to bring him down. He does a great job of securing the ball and fighting to get those extra yards that ultimately lead to first downs. He's also clutch — he had a HUGE diving catch in the final minute of our state quarterfinal game against 71st to win the ballgame.

A funny story — I might be partially responsible for Dan committing — it was the last day of my senior year, and we walked in to my Spanish class to say goodbye to our Spanish teacher who everyone loved. I gave her a hug goodbye, and Dan was in the class and asked where his hug was.

I said, "Your hug is waiting for you on East Campus at Duke. See you there." I left.

QB Thomas Sirk (6'6" 212) has given a verbal commitment to Duke:

http://bluedevilnation.net/2011/06/thom ... s-to-duke/

Now I really want to see us close on a quality running back from this class. We didn't sign an RB in the Class of 2011 so RB is a need.

Verbal commitment #13 comes from Safety Michael Westray (6'2" 185). Westray runs a 4.4 second 40 yard dash:

Westray is from Westlake HS is Waldorf, Maryland.

Really, how did I type "is" when I meant "in"? The "s" and the "n" are not next to each other on the keyboard. I would claim my fingers just got ahead of my brain, but then you all would respond that that is because I'm slow minded.

Nice complementary article from ESPN on the state of Cutcliffe's recruiting.
Things are quietly changing in Durham, N.C., as David Cutcliffe has shaken things up a bit entering his fourth year as the coach for the Duke Blue Devils.

"Duke doesn't look like the Duke of four years ago," Cutcliffe said. "We are raising the bar in recruiting and that's something we will continue to do. We are raising the bar with the athletes we are bringing in here and that's starting to show."
"We will not have a very big class," Cutcliffe said. "We are really focusing in on quality. We would like to add some depth on the defensive line and speed at receiver. As a whole, we want to get faster on defense. We were much faster in 2010 than in 2008 and we will be even faster in 2011. We should have a very good offensive team. We are just about done."

Not a problem, Bob. Just as long as you don't get two too many fingers in the chopped 'cue :D . In fact, one would be too many. :-o
