Blind dependance on nothing except man-to-man defense ain't gonna get it done. There is a real and showing deficiency on the inside and doesn't help to have the other team draw them out from under the boards willfully. Either from step out, top of the key hedging or, from unnecessary double-teaming that allows the opponent to find the open teammate for an easy lay-up.

I felt certain that this might be Kyle's slump breakout. Shit! Was I ever wrong. Kelly tried to join him in this misery. Field goal shooting was attrocious, no matter who was flinging it. Meanwhile, they still have horseshoes firmly lodged up their assholes. Andre misses 3 free throws at the same step up to the line? Horrid performance all the way around.


One interesting question for the refs: Singler has the ball. The rest of the Duke team is standing around the perimeter, not moving, watching Kyle with the ball. It's the 1st half. Kyle takes a slap to the face. What the Hell are YOU looking at? No call. Asswipes!

This is not the "Duke way" of assessing things, but whether we like it or not, there was a goat tonight. His name is Ryan Kelly. He was really bad on both ends of the floor, and got progressively worse over the course of the game.

Yea, Ryan had a miserable game all over. However, Kyle couldn't seem to hit the broad side of the barn either. Even in slo-mo on TiVo, I couldn't find two of Mason's fouls (not saying the refs are at fault for us losing, but man we had a lot of foul trouble compared to them). Dawkins, an 82% FT shooter, went 0-3 from the line at a time when we REALLY needed a few points. He also missed the only shot he took, a three. Other than Seth, who had an awesome 6-11 from three, the guys went an abysmal 0-16 from beyond the arc, and were just hoisting them up like they were out of the game, even when they were still in it. If they'd taken 16 more inside shots and made even 6 of them, this would have been a completely different game. Driving seemed to work well, they just didn't seem to do it, except for Nolan. This was just a bad game all around. Even Nolan missed a few I was surprised at, though he had a good game all around except for his shooting from distance, where he was 0-4.

Dawkins 0-1

That's a combined 4-36, or 11.1%. Ouch.

Sober reflections:
Devils shot a shitty load of 36% from the field.
Devils hit on a wad wasting 22% from back of the arc.
MP1 & Andre, neither one scored, 'Dre misses 3 consecutive free throws, all at the same trip to the line? That ain't natch'ull!
Ryan shot an appalling 1 for 7 from the field.
Devils defense allows them 29 points from their tall guys.
Devils do not stop ball penetration from the interior.
Devils get outrun down the floor in transition to defense.
On their home floor, the turdholes hit the basket at a 52% clip.

I have skipped the denial stage of grief and am firmly in the ANGER camp. If I were to be any angrier about last night's cluster fuck, the top of my head would blow clean off.

I will not soon recover from this. It is my fondest hope that a bunch of incompetent boobs running around on the puke blue floor last night will not soon forget, either.

My son texted me sometime early in the 2nd half, IIRC, that "Ryan Kelly" was among the top 10 tweets of the evening, or something like that. And it was exactly for what wilson said. All the comments were how horrible he was. To be fair, he had accomplices in his behavior. As bjornolf pointed out, the rest of the team, outside Seth and Nolan, were abominable from the floor.
