We're hoping that by this afternoon the docs will have a sense of how well things went (meaning if more surgery is required or if they can begin palnning for his move to re-hab). :-s

I really appreciate the vibes/thoughts/prayers. :ymhug: Hopefully I will know more by later this afternoon. So far it has just been a waiting game, with my father living in morphine-land.

On a brighter note, my daughter is coming in for the weeknd to give me my belated father's day gift - a trip for she and I to go see the Avett Brothers tonight at TimeWarnerWalnutCreekVeryLongName Amphitheater. Certainly a nice counter-weight to the last couple of weeks.

A pretty rough couple of days - with lots of medication induced confusion/dementia and some respiratory problems from being in bed for so long. Heading out today and hoping for some improvement after a move to a new pain med regimen and some breathing treatments. Will report again tonight or tomorrow.

Some improvement over the weekend in terms of pain management (a delicate balancing act - pain meds lead to a lot of cognitve clouding, lack of pain meds lead to, well, really bad pain). A big improvement in respiration as a result both of breathing treatments and less fluid retention. Probably another week in the hospital and then a move to a rehab center. Clearly this will be a long, slow process.

I'm hoping to make it to the Miami game so I can thank you folks in person for your support. Until then, :ymhug:

Hang in there. One of the more difficult problems with taking care of the elderly, especially in the hospital, is balancing behavior control with pain management, sleep and cognitive function.

I hope you enjoyed the concert with your daughter.

The concert was wonderful. For those of you not familiar with the Avett Brothers I reccomend I and Love and You as a starter. It is a great cd and shows them off well. Watching them live I realized what makes their sound so unique. At one point the instruments being played on stage were a cello, an upright bass, a banjo, an acoustic guitar, and a drum set. An odd mix to begin with. But when you add in that they play them with a ferocity of a rock and roll band you get a unique sound. The energy and musical styling is straight up rock and roll, but played on acoustic/country/folk instruments.

It wa a great concert. My daughter gave me the tickets for just the two of us to go back on Father's Day. As of a week ago I couldn't help but think that this was horrible timing. Now I realize it was perfect timing.

Sounds like a very welcomed break/diversion.

Chalk up another success for the crazietalk vibes. :happy-bouncyblue:

My father was moved from the hospital to the rehab unit on Wednesday. They are working him very hard (a good thing) and he is already getting comfortable using the wheelchair. Despite his other health problems he has good upper body strength, so they anticipate no real difficulties with the crutches/walker. It will probably be a couple of months before he is fit and trained for a prosthetic leg. But the move to rehab, with the “more normal” existence it offers over a hospital, has done wonders for the confusion and depression.

Again, I really appreciate the support from folks on this board. It has meant more than you know.

Wolfpackdeviland I are hoping we’ll see some of you at the game tomorrow. We’re still not sure as to when we’ll arrive as time is still stretched thin by frequent trips from north Durham to WakeMed, but if we arrive in time we’ll stop by.
