I'll make another suggestion. Elvin Bishop's rendition of the Merle Haggard tune..
"I Can't Hold Myself in Line"

From Joe Jackson:

"What's the use of getting sober
When you're gonna get drunk again"

Can you really mention Willie Nelson in this thread without giving some mention of Whiskey River?

You can cry in your beer this summer at the DAP with Willie. He's playing there with John Mellencamp. I've never seen Willie live, but grew up listening to him. Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain was listened to while I painted just about any painting recently since it's on my MP3 player, along with Poncho and Lefty and the Red Headed Stranger.

You need to make it happen, ASAP. Willie is well within the top 5 of live acts I've seen (I've been to 3 Willie shows). Well worth whatever it costs. Seriously, do it.

What, it's summer, and there's no mention of Jimmy Buffett? :-t :-t :o

Come on, folks, what about "Why don't we get drunk"?

Then there's also The Perfect Country and Western Song,

I was drunk the day my mom got out of prison.
So I went to pick her up in the rain.
But before I could get to the station in my pickup truck
She got run over by a damned old train!

There's always Alan Jackson and Jimmy Buffett's "It's 5:00 somewhere". I like that one.

There's always Toby Keith's "You ain't much fun since I quit drinkin'."

Or Brad Paisley's aptly named "Alcohol". Best line in there is "helpin' white people dance."

"Don't Stop Believing" by Journey
"Why Don't We Get Drunk" by Jimmy Buffett
"Margaritaville" by Jimmy Buffett
"Friends in Low Places" by Garth Brooks
"Piano Man" by Billy Joel
"One For My Baby" by Frank Sinatra
"Tequila Sunrise" by The Eagles
"Closing Time" by Semisonic
"I've Loved These Days" by Billy Joel
"Devil With A Blue Dress/Good Golly Miss Molly" by Bruce Springsteen -- ALWAYS an appropriate drinking/partying song!

This one acquired a whole new significance for me during the Sopranos finale. Whenever I hear it, I sort of think it should be cut off at that same moment. I always get a little twinge, though, because I miss that show so much. I gotta say though, I've been re-watching it recently, and I'm pretty well convinced that it's even better the second time around.

Oh, and Tony definitely got whacked.

One that just came on my iTunes:

To Be the One-Ryan Adams: "the empty bottle is missing you, yeah, and I'm the one it's talking to"

Is that Ryan Adams or Bryan Adams? I hadn't heard of Ryan Adams, so I was confused. For all I know, there IS a Ryan Adams.

It's Ryan Adams. All the kids are listening to him these days. He's part of what has come of the "alt-country" thang these days, and he's actually pretty damn good (Just ask him...).

He covered "Wonderwall"? Sorry, not a fan of that. And his version doesn't really do anything for me. I think I'll stick with the Oasis version. His original stuff isn't too bad, but that cover hurt bad. And it's his second most popular song according to iTunes. People are morons. ;)

Ryan Adams is great. He's also pretty quick-witted. Being interviewed once, outside at the Grammy's, he told the interviewer that the place "just looked like a good place to have a beer."

He claims to be quitting the music biz (this may be the fourth time this decade alone). He must just be fully devoted to his fiance, Ms. Mandy Moore. I'm pretty much a super fan and have been desperately awaiting the box set for years. I'll probably have to keep waiting.

I never understood the term "alt-country". The stuff that gets labeled "alt-country" today is more grounded in traditional country music than anything coming out of Nashville. This isn't 1968 when Sweetheart of the Rodeo was alternative country music.
