McGrupp, thank you so much for posting and sharing the history of BTD with us. I was on DBR starting in 97 (the Juliovision days) and lurked for a long time. Anyway, I definitely remember you, and remember the "tussle" that went on, though not the specifics, to cause you to leave and start the blog. Now I know what became of it. ;) I definitely remember, though, that the boards were not the same after that- I always thought you were a very strong contributor.

Regardless, welcome to CTN and I hope you'll stay with us, just as I'll soon be signing up for BTD. Cross-pollination can be a good thing. :D

Any and all are welcome at BTD. Please note that registering is a bit of a hassle. Basically I need each new registrant to send me a personal email because we get hundreds of Russian porn bots trying to register each day. You can find the details within the "please read before posting" thread that is pinned at the top of the page.

Those of you who are in the Triangle area may be joining just in time for BTDFest 3, which is becoming our annual get-together. We've had people come from as far away as Arizona and Canada in the past, and we expect some long distance travelers this year as well.

Oh and by the way, I am BTD_Steve on BTD. A hold-over name from the blog days. I have been considering changing my name back over to McGrupp, though. (This would result in my posting total being reset to zero, which I understand the culture here would view as a tragic waste). ;)

Let us know the details of BTDfest and I'd bet you have a few folks here attend :D

This PW afflicted group has been assisted by the advent of Brunchgate, which has been tailgating for several hours before each home FB game, beginning last fall. We fully intend to continue this fall. The rules are simple: you bring some good food, you bring some good libations, you share with all and you cheer for Duke FB the remainder of the day. We'll be meeting this fall under and around a tent that Ozzie has rented, with about 8-9 others who are sharing the cost, from the ID and it will be tent #2 in the Card Gym lot. We look forward to meeting with you and sharing some stories and gourmet (or at least near-gourmet) food for the 6 games this fall.

Heaven forbid anyone here would get their/there/they're post counts reset to 0. Armageddon. :)) =))

As a poster on both BTD and TSTMNBN/TOWEL/TOBY, I thought I'd check in here and say "Hey." I figured I'd post here occasionally, too, though my PWing is at BTD at present.

It's not an adverb, it's a noun. When the present participle of a verb functions as a noun, it's known as a gerund. For example, in the sentence, "I am post-whoring," "post-whoring is a verb--something I am in the act of doing. However, to say "I frequently engage in post-whoring" transforms the phrase into a noun, as if someone were to say "I frequently play baseball." "Post-whoring" and "baseball" serve analogous purposes in the two preceding sentences.

An adverb, on the other hand, is a descriptive word that modifies a verb. Think of it this way: adverb is to verb as adjective is to noun. For example, in the sentence "I post-whore profligately," the adverb is "profligately," as that word further describes the manner in which I post-whore. In the overwhelming majority of cases, adverbs end in -ly.

Got all that?

Hey, Johnboy, welcome!

And I believe post-whoring is a verb, as in "I am currently post-whoring." Isn't it? It IS an action in that case, after all.

Don't know that we'll be tent #2 yet or not, but you'll be able to find us by reading our banner (full wording is classified!)

After talking with several of our founding Brunchgate members, "Membership" in our tent, for those who will be attending all or most of the games, is $67 for the year. The original 9 have split the cost of the actual tent, but additional moneys collected will be given to our "providers" to buy major food items, like, but not limited to, tenderloins, to defray the costs. One (or two) timers are welcome and can either contribute food and beverage, or cash, at their option. But we're going to have a blast, and the team is going to a Bowl game this year! :D :-bd :-!

This message will be repeated in August both here and on the DBR boards, in its own thread.
