I sat with Shereec at the "welcome back" ceremony. She asked me what I thought Kyle would do. My answer: 60/40 he goes, with the impending labor stoppage next year being the tipping point in favor of going this year. And 60/40 may be way optimistic on my part, but as y'all know, that's the way I do things!devildeac wrote:If he stays, great. If he leaves, K re-loads/re-builds. Lots of positives to either scenario. Mrs. DD and I discussed that very topic on our walk tonight.windsor wrote:He was very cagey at the welcome back...of course if you aren't 100% it is very hard to dodge all of Cameron screaming 'ONE MORE YEAR!' without sounding cagey.
Is Kyle leaving? --- The answer is officially NO!

Re: Is Kyle leaving?
I think the possible work stoppage might ENCOURAGE him to stay. After all, chances are small and if it does happen, he can still make millions playing overseas for a year. And if it DOESN'T happen he might get the number 1 pick since so many will enter prematurely this year. I know, I'm being WAY overly optimistic.

Re: Is Kyle leaving?
There is a huge crop of early exits this year...that might work in our favor. I expect him to declare, without an agent to test the waters, talk to some teams see where he might end up...and make a final decision based on that information. It is what a reasonable human being would do...you can't make such a major decision without all of facts. So I secretly hope he shoots like he did in Houston, not Indy for the next month

Re: Is Kyle leaving?
While #1 may be a pipe dream, this scenario could happen. There really do seem to be a huge number of underclassmen declaring this year, and a bunch of them already are getting agents and won't be able to come back. I could definitely see a number of players drafted because NBA GM's think their potential is higher then Singler's pushing him to the second round prompting him to come back for another year polishing his skills at the 3. If he comes back we will be in the preseason top 5. And there's no way our season goes the way the 'holes did - we have a coach who knows what he's doing.bjornolf wrote:I think the possible work stoppage might ENCOURAGE him to stay. Kyle is gone. Long gone. Unfortunately, I can feel it in my loins.
That said, I love Kyle and wish him nothing but the best! He was huge in giving Duke another banner! Rock on Kyle Singler!

Andy Katz published a column today saying he really doesn't think Kyle will leave. Katz placed us at an absurdly premature #2 for next season, behind Purdue.
FWIW, he also said he didn't think Ed Davis would leave, and placed the heels at #18.

I don't think our 2 is absurd at all, even if Kyle goes. I really liked his 18 for the heels..right or wrong...he basically said "prove the hype". Hard to argue with that.wilson wrote:Andy Katz published a column today saying he really doesn't think Kyle will leave. Katz placed us at an absurdly premature #2 for next season, behind Purdue.

I don't think that ranking is absurd either, except for the fact that it should be #1. ;)CameronBornAndBred wrote:I don't think our 2 is absurd at all, even if Kyle goes.
Seriously though, all I really meant is that it's stoopidly early to be ranking any team for next year. Wait until the draft situation shakes out, and then let's talk. I think we're easily in the mix for the title next season. I say call us the favorites if Kyle comes back, and if not, stick us at 5-7 preseason.

Re: Is Kyle leaving?
In the post game, K said that the pundits will talk on Tuesday about pre-season rankings for next year, because it's basketball, and that's what they do. Some would have Butler 1, some would have Duke 1. He was prescient, but it didn't take a championship coach to guess that scenario.wilson wrote:I don't think that ranking is absurd either, except for the fact that it should be #1. ;)CameronBornAndBred wrote:I don't think our 2 is absurd at all, even if Kyle goes.

Didn't you all love how geeky and scholarly Kyle looked with his glasses on at the Homecoming party? He looked more like a kid who had been studying in Perkins, rather than a kid who had just torn it up on the basketball court the night before.
So cute, so humble, so Duke.

A Meaningless but "can't help myself" Prediction
EarlJam's Prediction:
Kyle Singler has made up his mind (one way or another). Kyle does not want the limelight and much attention after announcing. He will therefore strategically announce his decision on Sunday, amidst all the Masters hype.
Which way will he go? God I hope I'm wrong but would totally understand. I say 75/25 in favor of leaving for the NBA.
My prediction - as utterly meaningless and founded on nothing as it may be.

I dunno. I think your odds are just about right, but I don't think he's made up his mind yet. Other announcements are coming fast and furious, so I think he's hanging back a little to get the lay of the land before proceeding.EarlJam wrote:EarlJam's Prediction:

I will play Devil's Advocate ( ) and say that as each day goes by, the more he is going to stay and graduate. I don't think his draft status will be too high, given the vast swarm of people already declaring. And shoot, we're also forgetting about the European players as well.
No... he's staying... 67/33.

Re: Is Kyle leaving?
Right now a few mock drafts have him as high as 19, while a few have him slipping into the early 2nd round. Insiders on a premie site say right now his projection is mid 20's. I think he'll wait for the last few days to make a final decision and even then not hire an agent till he's sure (post workouts).
I think he's coming back. A chance to repeat, get AA honors, and his jersey retired?

He has also been quoted as saying that he was not gonna sit on an nba bench just to be in the league, or something like that.Jesus_hurley wrote:Right now a few mock drafts have him as high as 19, while a few have him slipping into the early 2nd round.
