I do not need to be stranded in Raleigh or along US 264 or along I-40 or I-540. I do not need for my kids to be stranded anywhere.

Please, dear God, let this snow talk be wishful thinking and lots of hype!
CathyCA,

Others have clearly made their stance known on this thread but yours is confusing to me. Could you please be a little more clear? Do you or do you NOT want it to snow? It's really hard to tell through your ambiguous post. :)

Hey! I'll be flying INTO RDU at 2:12 tomorrow. We'll just miss each other. :(
Oh wow! Our flights should be okay. If not, Stevo and I are going to drive the Mini to NY. Yay front wheel drive and all-weather sports tires :D

I'm driving straight through tomorrow, and will be spending the night in Hackensack, NJ, a mere 10 miles from Manhattan. I'll be in the city Saturday morning. What are the PA's doing for lunch?

I have to check in for the pep rally and game at 12:30. Not sure what the others are doing.

Where in Hackensack? My parents moved from there a couple of years ago. You are NOT FAR from Harold's (good Jewish soul food), and you are not far from several good diners. Of course, Carnegie takes precedence, BUT...

Also... might want to check DePiero's farm in Montvale, NJ to get some apples. Call them to see if they have any available. A good Macoun is hard to beat! It's right off the Parkway just before the NY State line.

The forecast worsens. Possible 10 to 12" of snow in NYC tonight and tomorrow. Getting there will be easy. Getting out on Sunday may be impossible.

I've been in NYC once when it snowed, but not that much. My mom is there now I think, (but not going to game, she is there to see her mom) and was planning on leaving Sunday. At least she has a place to stay until they clear the roads.

I guess there may have been those who read my forecast earlier on this thread and thought I was fantasizing. The current trends developing suggest that this could be quite a weather event across North Carolina and along the East Coast.

CathyCA, have you considered going to RDU today (before mid afternoon) and getting a room at one of the hotels near the airport? Several do have free van transfers to and from the airport and would give you a place to stay safely with your son until the roads are safe, perhaps Sunday. Email or PM me me if you need more information to make a reservation.

My husband is at the Atlanta airport right now trying to get on an earlier flight, and I really hope he can get out of there ahead of the weather. I've been alone with these kids for 5 days, I really need him to get home! *frets*

My best thoughts for all of the other travelers, too, hope nobody gets stranded. %%-

Our Corporate travel office is being bogged down with cancellations and apparently just got a weather update alert indicating that the previous predictions for almost a foot of snow here in DC/NoVA have now been doubled to almost two feet. However, the weather folks are pretty sharp because they always have a caveat, there are apparently two storm tracks and their new prediction of almost 2 feet is storm track 1 and if the storm goes out over the ocean as it comes up the coast, then we'll get 3-6 inches. I would not be upset if they blow this one, but would definitely prefer the latter predication of 3-6" inches. I really dislike shoveling snow! :-ss :-ss :-ss :-ss

Now for a weather report from the western edge of the Piedmont..... EarlJam, your wish has been granted. If you're headed to Alamance County after your arrival, please be very careful since winter driving conditions will prevail.

Following is an update so that those of you in the central part of the state know what's headed your way.

Around 11:15A the first crystals of frozen rain began to fall, slowly at first then quickly shifting to faster more numerous crystals to pelt cars and other surfaces. The temperature was around 36 degrees at that time. By 12:20P the precipitation had shifted over to snow and the temperature had begun to drop. By the time I got home about 1P, the temperature was hovering at 32 or even 31 degrees and feels like the low twenties. The snow changed over to light fluffy wet flakes by 12:30 or so. Traffic is crawling on most major surface roads as the schools dismissed a couple of hours early, planned and announced in view of the approaching weather. Various workplaces are releasing employees early to head home. Road surfaces are slushy and getting colder and a little bit slick.

This is not a casual storm just passing through. I hope that everyone who's driving to NYC is well on the way headed north and they each is able to stay ahead of the storm as it advances.

Doing it in snow isn't too awfully bad. Ice is NO-GO. They made me select a trip this morning. Just for laughs, I picked one that went like this:

Cary (Auto Park Honda)-RDU airport(National car rental)-Raleigh(Leith Lincoln/Mercury)-Goldsboro(Deacon Jones)-Morehead City(Ford)

I gathered the cars, locked them up, then went up to dispatch and turned in the trip. No way in Hell I could have gotten it done in one day. More besides, make it home before uber-freezing would occur. I've already spent one night this week away from home.
Under the weather conditions, under the health conditions of the folks here at home, it's vital for me to be here.
I'll live to fight another day.

Next time you are in Morehead, please give a shout. Would love to grab lunch, if you are in town for dinner, I'll grill you up some grub.

I rarely get the chance anymore. Those with seniority over me will select MC/Havelock/New Bern ahead of me. They'll even jump on going into Cherry Point. Thanks for the invite. Should the opportunity arise....I used to stay at the Buccaneer Inn. Restaurant was closed down last time I was there. That was two years ago.

Made it to New Jersey. Our trip to Mass is clearly cancelled for tomorrow. The 10-20 inches expected here will do that.

Glad you made it safely, DU.

I just heard about the weather forecasts for back there, and thought of all you crazie folk headed northward into the storm. :-ss I hope everyone makes it to your destinations safely, and then home again!

Major ass vibes headed Eastward indeed! :wizard: :wizard:

Capt, I've always been respectful to the trucker's out there, but now everytime I see them, I am thinking of you and you can only imagine with how much I am on the road, just how much I am thinking of you! Your ears must be burning constantly! I am glad you are back, we missed you!!!! ;)
