Re: Poll Position
In the coaches poll, we fell only 2 spots to #7, the holes dropped to 13th. In the AP, we fell 3 to 8th, and the holes only dropped to 12th. unc has a tough schedule this week, facing the same two teams we had last week...Clemson and GT. If Georgia Tech wins, they will be looking pretty in the ACC standings, having beaten both Duke and UNC. If they lose...they are going to face a lot questions from the home crowd. They also play UVA (should be a win) and Clemson after the heels..tough crowd in the ACC again.

Fortunately Georgia Tech goes to UVA before facing UNC so the post-Duke letdown will not happen against UNC-CH.CameronBornAndBred wrote:In the coaches poll, we fell only 2 spots to #7, the holes dropped to 13th. Re: Poll Position
Yeah..I should have stated that clearer...uva, unc, then clemson. Good point about facing someone else first.Jesus_hurley wrote:Fortunately Georgia Tech goes to UVA before facing UNC so the post-Duke letdown will not happen against UNC-CH.CameronBornAndBred wrote:In the coaches poll, we fell only 2 spots to #7, the holes dropped to 13th. Re: Poll Position
I found it odd that we dropped the same number of spots as them when we lost to the #17 team on their home court and UNC lost to Charleston. I think both UNC and UCONN get a little more respect than they probably deserve. They're #12 and #14, yet they're the only 4 loss teams in the entire top 25.CameronBornAndBred wrote:In the coaches poll, we fell only 2 spots to #7, the holes dropped to 13th. You nailed that one...GT lost to UVA. Now the heels will face a determined Tech team.Jesus_hurley wrote: Fortunately Georgia Tech goes to UVA before facing UNC so the post-Duke letdown will not happen against UNC-CH.

This also makes Virginia tops in the ACC. 2-0. It may be the only 2 wins they get in the ACC this year, but for now we are all looking up at them.CameronBornAndBred wrote:You nailed that one...GT lost to UVA. Will UNC-CH stay in the top 25 next week if they lose to GT this weekend?

Re: Poll Position
Probably, since both Clemson and GT are ranked.

Re: Poll Position
Duke is #6 in this week's ESPN/USA Today poll.
unc is #23, and the victs are #21. Can someone please tell me how these 2 teams are still ranked?

We came in at 7 in the ESPN poll. UNC-CH is 24. 2 or 3 more losses and they might fall out of the top 25!ArkieDukie wrote:Duke is #6 in this week's ESPN/USA Today poll.

Re: Poll Position
If you lose closely to a team with a higher rank, it might be that you don't fall as much. One could even argue that you rise a little. E.g., if UVA lost by 2 to Duke, UVA's rank wouldn't go down much, and might actually rise a little, as people would take the UVA performance to be a good loss. SO, a loss to GaTech might have helped the Holes.Jesus_hurley wrote:We came in at 7 in the ESPN poll. NAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHH!
The alternative explanations might include:
1) Roy paid 'em off. ;)
2) Too many Hole journalism degree people who have a vote.
3) Duke Hatred Tsunami.
4) Too many judges thought they were voting for Rhode Island (similar uni's).
5) Too many judges thought they were voting for Cornell (similar alma mater).
6) Dickie V. told them to vote for the Holes.
7) Too many judges based out of Charlotte.
8) Blaming the losses on the absence of Zeller. Otherwise, they're a top 5 team.
9) Subliminal messages in the AT&T Beaker commercials command people to vote for the Holes.
10) That American Idol Tar Hole dude from last year rigged the voting. ;)

Re: Poll Position
Most would tell you that they're surviving on two wins vs. top-10 competition (Michigan State & Ohio State). This is to some extent true, but nearly every other team in the country would have exhausted those wins' utility by now, as they happened about two months ago (to be fair, Duke is one of the handful of teams that would probably linger in the top 25 with a similar resume, but that's another matter). Also, all of their losses but the one to College of Charleston are not bad losses, as they have come against ranked competition...Kentucky, Texas, and Syracuse are all top-5 teams, and Georgia Tech and Climpsun are also ranked. Among those, only the Climpsun loss qualifies as maybe a bad one, simply because it was so resounding.ArkieDukie wrote:unc is #23, and the victs are #21. Sadly, carolina is better than it might appear, whether or not their resume to date warrants continued inclusion in the top 25. They will bounce back, they will make the tournament, and they will at least give us good contests, if they don't outright beat us at least once.

Re: Poll Position
Duke did well with their Clemson win and stayed in the top 10. (8/ap, 7/coaches). The holes, however are GONE BABY!
In the coaches poll, they got one vote, in the AP they got squat. In fact, in the AP poll, Harvard got more than the heels did, with 1 vote. Way to go Tommy!

Once the 'Holes win 2 in one week they'll vault back to the top 10....CameronBornAndBred wrote:Duke did well with their Clemson win and stayed in the top 10. (8/ap, 7/coaches). The holes, however are GONE BABY!

IIRC, someone gave the Holes a vote in the ESPN poll.

Yep, one vote in the ESPN poll, none in the AP. http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/rankings? ... asonType=2Lavabe wrote:IIRC, someone gave the Holes a vote in the ESPN poll.
