For the same terrible reason that Butte is pronounced with the long vowel U.
There's a suburb of Atlanta called Dacula, pronounced "Duh-CUE-luh". However, I resolutely refuse to pronounce it any other way than "DACK-you-luh," complete with Transylvanian accent. Seriously, every time I have said this word for the past 12 years or so, I have pronounced it with the classic vampire accent.
Try it with both a vampire
and a pirate accent.

Good Morning, all!
Yea, it was awesome that Duke won. It also helped that UVA lost. Brings them back within reach. The only thing that could have made the night better would have been a NCSU win over MD, which would have put us solidly alone in second place. How crazy is it that the top two ACC teams, UVA and MD, have two of the worst overall records in the entire ACC, and Miami, who has one of the better ones, is LAST in the ACC? Just shows how skewed out of conference schedules can be, and how tough ACC play is, eh? And when was the last time UNC had the second most losses in the conference this late in the season?
On top of that, Texas lost two, and #8 and #9, Tennessee and Kansas State, both lost, which will help our rankings not to be TOO damaged by the NCSU loss.
Qui invidet minor est...
Let's Go Duke!

Yes, but it sure is nice to wake up after a great Duke road victory! Good to see the team crank up the D in the 2nd half.
Rachael Flatt FINALLY won the US Figure Skating Championship last night. If she cleans up the little bobbles she made, she could be a serious medal threat at the Olympics. Definitely has the technical goods, and artistry is improving. Hope Mirai Nagasu gets that under-rotation problem fixed before the Olympics, too. She's amazing when she's on, but she always gets dinged for under-rotation of jumps (that's how she lost to Flatt last night). I was seriously afraid that the judges were going to prop up Sasha Cohen like they did in the short program in order to send her to Vancouver (no deduction for botched jump combo), but she took care of that for them by falling on one jump and visibly two-footing the landings on the rest. I feel sorry for Ashley Wagner; her fall in the short program kept her in 3rd place and just off the team. Her free skate was really good (she placed ahead of Nagasu in the long program).
The press about the Ladies Final reminded me a bit of the skit on SNL when Chris Evert hosted, the one where everything she did Martina Navratilova did better and snagged the headlines. Poor Rachael Flatt wins her first US championship, and all the articles' titles say something to the effect of "Sasha Cohen Falters in Comeback Attempt." Makes it sound like she won only because Sasha messed up.
Most people say that is it is the intellect which makes a great scientist. They are wrong: it is character.

Me too! It was great to be so incredibly lazy
Of course, I was no where near as "tired" as Duke was last night!

You would think the announcement "If anyone calls I'm asleep" would have given them a clue.

Not to mention, "I'll call back later. Please don't wake him!!!"
