Amazing athletes, and classy all the way around. Allyson Felix became the first female since Florence Griffith-Joyner to win 3 gold medals in a single Olympics. ^:)^ ^:)^
SR-R and Felix are simply great.
US Men's came in 2nd with the 2nd fastest time ever in 4 x 100. Really like the anchor, who came closer to Bolt than anyone did this Olympics. A classy silver performance.
Go figure men's platform diving! Surprise!!
Ditto on all of your statements. SR-R and Felix have impressed me throughout the games. The US men did a nice job in the 4x100 as well. Bolt, blah. To me he comes across as an a$$hole - way too egotistical. To be fair, dude can run, so he has earned it to some extent. He'd be much more admirable to me if he'd dial back the attitude a bit. YMMV

Did anyone see the pics of the women's basketball team after they won their gold medals? I saw a couple of team shots on ESPN that made me cringe a bit. For example Diana Taurasi was doing Usain Bolt's pose. :Boo: On the flip side, there was also a cute picture of Candace Parker holding Aliyaa. Candace brought her along so Mommy could win a gold medal for her. She gave Aliyaa the medal, and she told Candace that it was too big and she wanted something smaller! :))

The diving was fun to watch. Impressive skill all the way around. The commentators are great and very knowledgable. They seemed to think that the Chinese divers were overscored. Anyone else know enough about diving to comment on this?

Does anyone else automatically think "Chewbacca" when they hear the name "Ibaka"?

Don't look now, but the US is only up by 1 at the start of the 4th.

Am watching team rhythmic gymnastics right now and wondering, why is this an Olympic sport? It's basically dance with props. Heck, why not just add a dance competition? Or cheer leading?

The Russian rhythmic gymnastics team members look like they applied their makeup with magic markers.

Is rhythmic gymnastics entertainment, dance or sport? The costumes for this "sport" are over the top.

(This post might properly belong in the snark thread.)

More over-the-top outfits than the synchronized swimmers? Remember the headless horsemen outfits? the Michael Jackson outfits?

We watched some of this the last couple of days, and I kept thinking there had to be a better use of my time, like vacuuming or cleaning bathrooms, though the commentary from the Rev. Law grad and the dear stepdaughter was priceless. And definitely NSFW. :9f:

I say that snark is appropriate in any and all threads. :D

You ask a great question, Cathy. It looks like 5 women doing ballet while dancing and throwing balls around.

Here's an odd thought... perhaps they could show the marathon? :|

Funny, I cried like a baby listening to the closing ceremony version of the Pet Shop Boys and Madness alledgedly singing their 1980's hits. #-o

Sometimes lip synching is preferred.

Having said that, I love STOMP.

I have to say, I agree with you on all counts. It could get worse: the Spice Girls are still to come.

Oh NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! NOT the Spice Girls!

After seeing one of the little NBC bits between events last week, I'm hoping they have The Red Hot Chili Pipers! :happy-bouncyblue:
