Do pirates and/or buccaneers really say "off with your head?" I thought that was something a king or queen would say.wilson wrote:I'm trying to figure out away to combine "off with your head" with your walking the plank.cl15876 wrote: I do toooo!!! and am picturing him slaving over the stove singing "You can go your own way!!!!...... Re: LTE 2.0
Actually, I bet that not much of anybody ever said "off with your head" with any seriousness. It's definitely not a pirate-ism. As I mentioned in some other thread, I sort of missed my "off with your head" catchphrase from DBArrr ! and have decided to resurrect it.TillyGalore wrote:

You don't walk the plank in NJ. You just disappear. Forever.

Oh, god, anything but that! My wife would NOT be happy with you if you cut off my plank. Oh, who am I kidding, you'd have to steal it from the on her night table.
I always thought "Off with his head!" was always the favorite line of the queen of hearts from Alice in Wonderland. Maybe I've been smokin' the funny stuff with the caterpillar again, though.

Way too much coffee today...time to fly away home, with a stop along the way to pick up some cheese & good bread (see my recent London Broil entry in the Recipe Thread) and some Fat Tire. Book #2 of the day to be read on the deck with the pups, probably sans shoes. 66 and glorious here today.

What was book #1? What are you reading for book #2?wilson wrote:Way too much coffee today...time to fly away home, with a stop along the way to pick up some cheese & good bread (see my recent London Broil entry in the Recipe Thread) and some Fat Tire. Did you see my joke in your honor over in your new moderator thread? I was hoping to hear what you thought of it.

I did see the joke, and I appreciate it. That joke is one of my very favorites, and I think it's pretty darned funny aside from its other obvious merits.bjornolf wrote: What was book #1? What are you reading for book #2?

As for books, the first for the day was Strangers Within the Realm, an edited collection of essays about (quoting from the subtitle) "the cultural margins of the first British Empire." Brief explanation: The first British Empire is generally understood as lasting from roughly the mid-seventeenth century until about the American Revolution. As for "cultural margins," we're simply talking about geographical peripheries (colonies, Ireland, Scotland, etc.) and marginal peoples: Native Americans, slaves, servants, poor people, etc.
I should confess that it wasn't a complete reading of that book today. It's about 440 pages long, but I finished off the last 275 pages or so.
Book #2 will be The Rise and Fall of the Plantation Complex, a study of the economic, social, and demographic particulars of plantation societies, particularly in the British context. Though a bit dense, it's shorter than Strangers at 206 pages. Should be pretty easy to knock it out in the next three hours or so (just in time for the final 2/3 or so of the Braves game).
A ~650-page day is not a bad haul.

I'm watching an online tutorial so we can implement a software product that we don't currently use. (No Wilson, not a webinar. ;) )
I will shortly be gouging my eyes out.
