Chris, BINGO! I worked there for 1.5 years and sat in on many an Advertising/"How can we get more eyeballs?" meeting.

Believe me. They purposely hype up threats and virtually throw parties when a severe hurricane threatens the coast. All that "Katrina - 5 Years Later" stuff? I know they were sitting around earlier this year salivating at how they could generate revenue over Katrina again.

Some of it is necessary evil, I get that. But they are definitely fear mongers. Can't wait to discuss!

Chris, conditions update? Jim Cantore is acting quite dramatic.

He's an asshole. If a rabbit farted it would be windier outside than it currently is now.

Yesterday..I saw that bastard cut off the guy he was interviewing (mayor of hatteras) because the mayor basically said that "we are staying, it's not much, we've seen it before and we know when to leave". Cantore cut him off so he could go back to saying that he would evacuate his film crew if he had to. In the shot preceding this, there were people walking past him. The lady at the anchor desk said "Jim, I don't see anyone there, so I assume that everyone has left". He replied "yes, they are all gone, the beach is barren" and pretty much directed the camera guy to not show the crowd that had JUST WALKED PAST HIM!!!! I hate the weather channel.

Yes. And I heard him say the other day (paraphrase), "Well, when they see me they know it's serious and that their lives are at stake."

Good lord.

Yes, I used to love The Weather Channel. Yes, I got laid off from there but I am still friends with some from there. The reason I don't care for them now is, in part, the meetings I attended, the attitudes, and just the absolute 100 percent bowing down to advertising revenue. They'll do anything to "sell it," and when it comes to weather, not cool. Just go to their web site. You have to dodge all the ads and pop-ups just to get a forecast. (Insider Info: They purposefully rearrange the web site every so often to make it so you have to view it longer, figure it out, and see more ads).

I now use weatherunderground.com for most of my weather needs, and yes, I am a weather junkie. Weatherunderground.com is top notch, and without all the ad pop-ups and BS information.

P.S. There ARE many cool, legit ones at The Weather Channel. Samantha Mohr (is she still there?) is AWESOME and smart.....and pretty! Nick Walker is awesome and legit. And believe it or not, so is Cantore. Remind me to tell you of a conersation we had. He has a tremendous passion for what he does and he, let's just say, "strongly dislikes" having to do what corporate tells him he must do at times......though he still yields. Example: During an annual meeting, we were discussing promoting the new studio with large screen imagery. Said a corporate peg: "Promoting the studio means more in-studio time for our stars like Cantore and Seidel." Said Cantore who was sitting in the row in front of me at the Marriott in Marrietta, GA: "Bull. Not if I have anything to do with it." He said he hated being in studio.

Bruce mentioned that this morning when we turned on TWC to see how things were going at the coast.

I bet it was easy to evacuate Palmicko and Beauford counties. TWC and ESPN must share a spell checker, no doubt outsourced to someplace we've never heard of, where they've never seen a written language.

She's staying there and my parents extended their visit with her through the weekend. So she has help. But her yard is chock full of pines and I worry about one coming down on her house. She has a very sturdy basement if the wind gets bad.
