Now the Dutch coach is really questioning why the third place game is in existence (he's been saying that for years). Beats me who will be on the pitch for the third place Brazil vs. Netherlands game.

I am not a fan of the 3rd place game.

Who is old enough to remember when the NCAA Tourney had the same thing...a consolation game.
I attended one. I watched ND and Arkansas play before Duke and Kentucky played for the championship. It's the only FF I've been to.

I'm old enough to remember it but I don't. I won the office World Cup pool, technically no on can catch me going into the final two games. So, they inserted a wild card, if someone can guess the team that scores first in the title game and the player who scores it, they will beat me. Unless of course I guess it.

Sounds like this pool isn't even going to be Klose. :ymblushing:

There are a few interesting storylines to watch in the third place game. Apparently if Vorm plays for the Netherlands, then their entire squad will have made an appearance in the tournament. Of course there are a number of players on both sides who are almost certain to be in position to play their last World Cup game of their careers. This game tends to generate a lot of goals, so it may be worth tuning in for the entertainment factor.

The Dutch have essentially their A-team lineup. Sneijder took a knock during warmup, and might not start.
Brazil has Silva back, and Jo starts. Oh yeah... and Neymar is attending, sitting on the bench (I think).

Brazil lacks Hulk, Maicon, and Fred.

1:30 into the game, and Silva takes down Robben in the box. He should have gotten a red, but only received a yellow.
RVP gets the PK.
Dutch lead 1-0.
Brazil's nightmare continues.

16 minutes in: 2-0 Dutch.
Blind was all alone in the box off a bad David Luiz clearance.
This is getting ugly quickly.

CORRECTION: Maicon IS playing for Brazil... well, as much as anyone is playing for Brazil.

And the fans boo the home team off the pitch at the end of the match.

3-0 Dutch.
Yeah, it was not a beautiful game for Brazil.

Technically, 10-1. I am having a few people over for the final tomorrow, we've got German and Dutch beer on tap and Argentinian wine. Brazil will not be represented(though I could drag some cachaca out of the closer and make caipirinhas if necessary).

Brazil? Not represented? That's just nuts :ymblushing: !

Still wondering whether the German momentum will carry them across the finish line or if the semifinal was too easy for them. Of course Argentina has their own emotional momentum from their game. They also have one less day of rest than Germany.

Whew, that's all I can say. I enjoy Germany winning and not seeing Argentina win on Brazilian soil.

Futbol is easier than football (aka 'grid iron football') the basic rules are much simple but the nuances are harder.

My great grandmother (born in Hungary, had a pretty thick accent) understood futbol but not football - we tried one thanksgiving when she was in her 80s to explain it to her after 20 minutes she gave the tv and a dismissive wave and said "no sense it make, all gets up, all falls down, all gets up, all falls down" that was the end of her football education.
