I also live in Raleigh, home of the NC State Fair and purveyor of such fine treats over the years as deep fried:
1. Candy bars (Snickers, Milky Ways, etc)
2. Cupcakes (Twinkies and their ilk)
3. Coke (Really. They poured the syrup onto dough and then deep fried it)
I'm not that worried.
[redacted] them and the horses they rode in on.

The deep fried Coke was awful. I love me some DF Oreos, though.

Of course they're terrible for you, but those deep fried candy bars are fucking
delicious.

I won't try any of the "deep fried". I might like them. I like too much as it is.

Every now and then for some unknown reason I'll try and give pork rinds another shot. And every time I regret it.
They do pork rinds right in Mexico. Pour them in a bag, squeeze of fresh lime and douse them in salsa picante, shake the bag and eat. They're best consumed slugging down a Negra Modelo whilst watching luchadores on New Year's Day!

Agreed. My wife brought home some Sun Gold cherry tomatoes from the Carrboro farmer's market. "Oh try them, they're so super sweet you HAVE to like these ones." Barf, spat them out in the sink. Still tasted like dirt.
And my daughter is awesome, if I haven't said that already. Wife gave her her first piece of tomato the other day, she spit it out and started bawling at the top of her lungs. That's my girl!!!
I'm with you guys on this. Raw tomatoes look fabulous, but I just don't like them. They must be processed or cooked in some way. I'll try one every 5 years or so, but I never like them. I remember watching everyone eat tomato sandwiches as a kid and they looked to die for, but still, no dice for me. I'm going to tell on myself. I was still in the Navy, pregnant, and living in Great Lakes, Illinois. My ex and I went out for dinner and I ordered a club sandwich and said, "no tomatoes" and emphasized this several times. Then the waitress asked what I wanted to drink and I said, "tomato juice." I was serious :?
Tomato Juice gets my vote for a food I don't understand. I cannot have it straight. It must be diluted with copious amounts of vodka before I consider it potable.

They're good to use as a "bed" for some things but you need a bold flavor to balance out the sprout.

I like Raw tomatoes in moderation between two slices of toast, on/in a salad, in salsa, etc... and I especially like the Orange Tomatoes (much more meaty and less acidic! However, I have to agree with Miles on his approach to diluting tomato juice .....

I drink tomato juice or V-8 juice daily with breakfast. I used to live in an orange juice household, but then I moved out.

Glad to see there are other raw tomato haters here as well. Can't stand 'em. Makes me feel a little bit better because here's a list of foods that I will/won't eat that makes me feel like I might, just might, be from another planet.
Bostondevil loves:
lima beans
cauliflower
liverwurst
chicken livers (sauteed in butter with mushrooms and served over rice, yummy!)
radishes
turnips
oh and DiBD, roasted sweet potatoes, I love 'em too, they aren't too pretty to look at but, yuuummm
Bostondevil hates:
chocolate ice cream
chocolate pudding
tomatoes - all kinds although I will eat a marinara sauce
Bostondevil will eat but could be perfectly happy going the rest of her life without:
pizza
arugula
The time is out of joint, O cursed spite!

I could go without the pudding. Everything else on the list, I'm down. Especially the arugula! Seared tuna served on a bed of arugula. Mmmmmmmm.
