He is 6'2" 290 with SEC offers from Arkansas and Tennessee, plus Wake Forest, East Carolina, Rutgers, Western Michigan and few others. What I've read is he wants to play as a true freshman and Duke believes he will be able to.

He played amongst high level competition in south Florida.

Three star, 6-1, 290 pound DL. Impressive. That's a lotta beef there.

Just FYI...this is AWESOME!!!!

We can put a 4 wr set with Lee, Barnell/McCaffery, Crowder, Blakeney/McCaffery....Deaver at TE

That's a playmaker (ecompasses all of the below) - Crowder
Barnell - sensational catch guy...long arms and good speed...budding playmaker
McCaffery - In traffic first down guy, good for 1-2 per game.
Lee - Incoming Freshman, but catches everything well with hands...tough to bring down...this guy will keep our offense on the field getting a tough first down when Crowder is doubled. Game changer. Good in the endzone fighting for jump balls.
Blakeney - deep threat at 6'6' with speed - Also very good in the endzone
Deaver - Mr. ice in the veins - TE that really came on toward the end of the year. Made some big plays for us and won ball games with 3rd and 4th down receptions.

A 3 wr set with Crowder, Barnell, Lee could be tough as you'll have Shaq, Snead, or Ajeigbe (probably misspelled) coming out of the backfield. Our TE all had moments...but Deaver was money against A&M (116 yards) and was a consistent target for our QBs all last year. This year he should be even better. Reeves looked good against Texas AM too and I'm still thinking Beilinson will emerge as another pass catching option, but he'll have competition in 2015 for that spot with another recruit. Though low on Stars, Koppenhaver was outstanding and many have thought he played far better than his evaluations. I digress...

Lee's commitment opens things up and will make teams pay for doubling Crowder. He's also strong enough to be a blocker. That screen pass that goes for negative 2, becomes a 20 yard winner because Powell or Snead can actually put on a head of steam. One block can make a difference. This is huge commit for us. he's not your run of the mill 3 star guy.

Nice look at how he may be used, too, TFF.

The article DitBD links says he will "be expected to compete for minutes" this fall, and you obviously think so too. If he's that good, I'd love to see him on the field. It will be interesting to see if he does indeed play or redshirts.

Johnell Barnes is also a very strong blocker. Go here:

http://espn.go.com/ncf/video?gameId=332430150

Select videos and scroll down to the 19 yard TD reception by Isaac Blakeney. Barnes delivers a crushing block on the outside that clears the way for Blakeney to walk into the end zone.

Having wide receivers who can block adds another dimension to the passing game by opening up running room after the pass is caught.

LOI Update (per Scout):

18 recruits/17 LOIs expected (Johnathon Lloyd is already enrolled). 15 LOIs received. Duke is still waiting on the two California recruits: TE Koppenhaver and OL Schroeder.

We are almost there!

I saw Schroeder's pictures on Twitter just a few minutes ago. He is in the truck. :duke:

As of 30 minutes ago, Derek Jones said all the LOIs were in and the class complete. The process took two hours, start to finish. ;;)

Great Class!!

The signing of Trevon Lee was a perfect way to end the 2014 recruiting trail. If he can come in and compete for a starting spot, our receiving group could be very dangerous.

By far the best class since Cut has arrived in Durham, and with the stadium renovations on the way I expect the recruiting classes to grow and many more 4-star recruits to make their way to Duke.

Spring Practice starts in 2 days!

The evening's festivities for National Signing Day were well done.... good food and plenty of it. The videos before the program highlighted previous recruits currently making a difference on the field. Coach Cutcliffe's introduction of the incoming class highlighted their speed, strength, wing span and versatility. The only disappointing aspect was that the place was not packed. As many as 25% of the seats were unoccupied. ;;)

There were 250 seats. And there were over 250 people there. Alot of people were standing around the Food and Bar and the Table Tops.

We talked to Coach and Karen Cutcliffe after the event. Coach had a very very busy day yesterday!!!

As always, the Washington Duke Inn did a great job with the Food and beverage and service!!!!
