Re: MLB 2011
Why should we watch the all-star game when so many of the starters and announced reserves have let others take their places?
MLB needs to fix this fast.

Today's Sign of the Apocalypse: "The First Place Pittsburgh Pirates"
"It's the end of the world as we know it and I feel fine..." Let's Go Bucs!!
Better jump on that bandwagon soon - we're running out of seats!!

Re: MLB 2011
I am not a baseball fan, I think it's the most boring sport on the planet. However, since I was raised like all things Pittsburgh as a kid by my dad, I still follow the stats. Year after year I check to see how low the Pirates are in the standings, so it's been pretty amazing to see them a.) with a winning record and b.) at the top of the standings. This is the latest in the year they have done that since 1997. Luckily for them too, they are playing a series with Houston, who truly sucks. Right now there are 3 teams tied for first, but the Pirates should have two more victories notched up by weekend's end.Turk wrote:Today's Sign of the Apocalypse: "The First Place Pittsburgh Pirates"

Reverting to form?CameronBornAndBred wrote:So of course they lost tonight.CameronBornAndBred wrote:Luckily for them too, they are playing a series with Houston, who truly sucks. Re: MLB 2011
I wouldn't say reverting to form. Blew a late-inning lead last night (a rare event this year), and won today. They have been really good at avoiding long losing streaks, where the bottom completely falls out. They might drop a series, but they at least win a game (most times), and often win the next series. (which is essentially the definition of a .500 team - the Bucs are currently +5 over .500, compared to Sillies at +24 or Yank-me's at +18.)
The next couple weeks of trade gossip will actually be enjoyable, as opposed to the usual dread about which starting player with a contract coming due would be dumped for pennies on the dollar for a handful of teenage lottery tickets...

Put a fork in the Mariners because they are done. They lost their ninth straight game today. Over the weekend, they were swept by the Texas Rangers four straight games by a combined score of 17 to 2.

The Mariners ended up with a 17 game losing streak. Now, the Pirates are on their own 9 game losing streak. The Reds are pretty much done also...unless they surprise with a long winning streak. Something they haven't been able to do all year.

Re: MLB 2011
I blame the Pirates streak on that bastard ref in Atlanta! They won one game after that, and then have enjoyed a downhill slide back into the pits of suckiness.YmoBeThere wrote:The Mariners ended up with a 17 game losing streak.
