Rocking Chairs

Post by EarlJam » February 3rd, 2011, 12:37 pm

Do people still purchase rocking chairs for adults? I never here people talk about them anymore. When I was younger, we had a kick-ass rocking chair right in the middle of the living room. It was the favorite, most in-demand chair in the house.

Thoughts?

Now that you mention cats, you know that saying, "...more nervous than a long-tailed cat in a room full of rocking chairs?"

Well, who the hell has a "roomfull of rocking chairs?" I don't know anyone like that. And if there was a room full of people rocking in rocking chairs, wouldn't they be bumping into each other like crazy? I don't know. The whole notion seems silly to me, EarlJam.

New parents (and grandparents!) love rocking chairs to rock their babies to sleep! I prefer the type that also recline ;)

Yeah we still have a gliding, rocking, reclining chair in Katie's room and it totally rocks.

I understand the whole recliner rocker glider thing. But I'm talking about standard wooden rocking chairs. Are they just a thing of the past these days?

I recommend a trip to the Cracker Barrel, for country fried steak and gravy. If warm enough out, you could rock away the night.

We own 2. Of course they were both made 20+ years ago....

For kids, the glider is the way to go though. A regular rocking chair doesn't put them to sleep as well as the gliders do.

I've an old steel glider from the 50s that needs a new finish. But in order to do it right, it should be media blasted beforehand.

They are good for us old farts, too. :character-oldtimer:

Definitely not. A good rocking chair is very tough to beat.

As opposed to, say...a cock in front of a restuarant, for example? :-?

I'm officially claiming that cock by the way. From this moment forward, The cock in front of "Folk's" restaurant at the corner of Windy Hill and Cobb Parkway will forever be known as, "CockJam!"

So, ah, you know, if you're ever in Atlanta and want to see my cock, you know how to reach me. In fact, I will give one dollar to each person that poses with there hands on my cock. I promise.

So there you go.

You know the brand/model? I'm currently in the market. ;) (Seriously, it's the last piece of furniture for the nursery.)

If I may, this one... http://www.samsclub.com/sams/shop/produ ... ng%20chair... says porch rocker but works equally well indoors. Made from teak and nearly indestructable, it should work very well for your nursery use. It is a wide bodied chair that may make it easier for Mom or Dad plus baby.

It's a Dutalier. Hit this link and look at the model 856. I think that's the one. We love it. The ottoman is a must, too.
