It's still snowing a little here. Also some sleet and freezing rain. We have only about a 1/2 inch.

Big Ugly Transport Truck is parked out in the middle of it. These these are a lot of fun to crawl around on when covered in ice and snow. 8-| Last week we had a guy lose his balance while loading. He fell off from the top ramp, about 10 feet off the ground, to his landing on a concrete pad. He broke his collarbone. He was very lucky. One of our drivers fell off the same spot of the truck while loading in Lawrenceville GA, landing on his head and ending his life.

Just one or two of the many reasons why I hate snow.

A layer of snowey, sleetey, icey stuff covering the ground here in Durham. Not gonna be a nice drive tomorrow. So I'm not gonna do it.

After a fine snow covered the streets and roads late in the day, the precip falling now is a very fine frozen sort with more shape and texture than flakes. All pavement is covered far more thoroughly than the grass and similar surfaces.

It's a good time to stay inside and watch football!

I are, thanks. That morning, leftover wet conditions from rain the night before, froze into a thin coating of ice that coated the complete surface area of BUTT. The first hour of daylight is always the coldest temps of the day. I always wait until the Sun gets a bit higher in the sky before driving anything on. Even a little frost atop those metal ramps is very slick. Some folks happen to seem to be in a bit more of a hurry than they need to be. What goes up, has to come down. It's never the fall, that might be a problem. It's always that sudden stop at the bottom. :twitch:

Our 'powers that be' (Respect my authori-tie!), made the good taste decision that we should all stay home today.

Glad your powers that be have some sense. The varnish zone administration building opens at 9, the courthouse at 10. We can't get people to court when the weather is good; I have no idea who they think will show up in this stuff.

agree..snow much easier to deal with than ice..even when we have mixing and sleet up here, it's nothing like the ice storms down south..

No quotas for non-appearance warrants, are there?

Nope. Just juvenile court today. I suspect defendants will be few and far between. They'll just be summonsed to appear for a new date.

We doth give them far too much credit, actually. Were it not for the accident of last week, the situation could very well be different.
Many are the times that they did not announce a closing, forcing us all to show up. Then, we all stand around indoors, staring at one another and refusing to go out, claiming 'Imminent Danger'. Of course there are always one or two that have more desires ($$$$) that aren't understandable than they have properly operating brains, and they allow the brain to lose. If they don't inform us of closing, they are required to give a half-day's pay due to our appearance. Not living to fight another day is just dumb!

Having said the previous, I'd be willing to bet that there are 1 or 2 over there right now, allowing stupidity and greed to win out over common sense. :o)

That big storm is supposed to make its way up here from the US this evening and overnight. We're only supposed to catch the edge of it but even that is supposed to bring us 10cm-15cm of snow. We've had bugger all in the way of snow so far this year (although areas an hour west of me have been absolutely pummeled) so I guess I can't complain too much. Plus, we're a lot more used to it than many of you folks would be so it won't be as much of an inconvenience for us. Still, I can't help but wonder how many more days until spring...

I'm looking at a winter wonderland out my window this evening - started around 8PM, and now at nearly midnight, we've got over 4". Forecasts were for it to start to warm up, rain, and be all melted by morning, but I have a feeling that 1) we're getting more snow than expected, 2) that we'll get some freezing rain to top the snow, and c) i'll be working from home tomorrow! :happy-bouncyblue:

Still wintry white on the ground here, but we've got the first brilliant shining sun that's been around here in several days. Still crossing fingers that it slushes things down enough for me to get to the interstate around 1 or so. However, it's currently 24 out, which would seem to counteract much of the sun's benefit. I have the strong suspicion that trying to creep to the highway today might be perhaps not the best idea I ever had, but this is my only guaranteed chance to see this year's Duke team play (no game at GA Tech this season), so I'll be damned if I'm gonna miss it without at least a hearty attempt. :-? :-ss %-(

Clumpson loses in chappaheeya.

The sun came up this AM.

What else is new?

I think it was about 55-0 degrees in the Triangle today. 8-|
