Robbie, you rock! I'm so happy for you! What a great way to begin your Cameron Crazie career!Rolvix wrote:Holy cow. Countdown to Craziness was amazing.
Here's a quick rundown of my day:
10:00 A.M. - Set up camp after my Chem 31L class.
12:00 P.M. - 30 minute lunch break
3:00 P.M. - 1 hour break for me
6:00 P.M. - A man wearing a "K Academy" shirt asks me and a few of my friends to come help him with something inside Cameron. We follow him inside and stand around the circle in the middle of the court. They wheel out a table covered with a black cloth and remove it to show all five trophies we won last year (including the National Championship trophy) as well as the rings for all of the players. The fifteen of us students that were chosen are then filmed for ESPN screaming and yelling and cheering for Duke. Woah. Crazy.
6:30 P.M. - Enter Cameron Indoor Stadium
6:32 P.M. - Directed to my seat by a LM. It only happens to be the very middle part of the first row. Group 7 got just as good seats as Group 1 (the other "crazie-talkers" who happened to be sitting/standing right beside me).
6:50 P.M. - Who woulda thunk, I'm chosen out of the front row to compete in the Knockout contest in front of a few thousand people. Ahhh! I'm terrible at basketball. Somehow I manage to place third out of seven or eight... If I had only gotten second I would have won a piece of the national championship floor signed! Argh! Still freakin' awesome to play in front of so many people.
6:50 P.M. on - Begin Countdown to Craziness and my first Duke Basketball experience. Woah. What a great day.

I gave my camera to the kids during the scrimmage. There were over 100 pictures taken during that 24 minute time span. I'm working on getting them uploaded to the interwebz and I'll post a link. In the meantime.....

"Duke rings in the new season: Recruits reflect on their experiences opening the 2010-11 college hoops season with the defending NCAA champions."

Rodney Purvis peered onto Coach K Court inside Cameron Indoor Stadium from his front row seat behind the Duke bench. He couldn’t help but upgrade the subtle glance to an outright stare.
“Those rings,” said Purvis, a junior guard at Upper Room Christian Academy (Raleigh, N.C.). “They were crazy. Oh man, I’ve got to get one of those.”
Added Rasheed Sulaimon, a junior combo guard from Strake Jesuit Prep (Houston, Texas): “It was just an honor to be able to bring in the season with the champs. A lot of teams had events like this, but only one was raising a banner. To be there was an honor.”
Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski summed up the goal when hosting recruits for an event like CTC.
“I’m speaking generally, but every school wants to put their best foot forward” Krzyzewski said. “And we’ve got a pretty good foot.”

I'm still getting chills remembering the banner being uncovered and the having a single spotlight on it afterwards.
