We're thinking that maybe this morning our dove will return with an olive branch. . .

I'm hoping that we won't have any flooding. "They" are saying that the Tar River will get to 12 feet today. Flood stage is 13 feet. We're cutting it awfully close.

A gorgeous day here. We went to Stone Mountain State Park and grilled burgers. Walked maybe a million steps but it was beautiful and absolutely worth it. The falls are really pretty there.

Yea, but 22 inches of rain is for about 1/2 the year in Seattle. This fell in about 24 hours at the NC coast. :-o

But of course, LawGrad! ;)

My first summer out here, we had 45 days straight of sunshine -- I thought that the doom & gloom promises were designed to keep the tourists from moving here. Now, heading into my 8th winter, I can definitely confirm that it's greeeeeeey and darrrrrrrk for a good 4 months. And two months on either side of that are chilly and rainy/cloudy. Occasionally, we'll get two nice weeks in January where we see some sun, but otherwise, it's not likely to arrive until July 12. (No really - it's proven -- http://cliffmass.blogspot.com/2010/06/f ... it-be.html)

Back up to normal temps here in the Land of the Lost. It's just that we haven't had much rain in ages.

Just returned from a week long road trip to Saint Louis for my nephew's wedding.... same nephew you all were sending in vibes when he got laid off twice last year.

On the 29th. we had rain for the entire time we spent driving through West Virginia, seemed appropriate. The drive through Kentucky the next day was much more pleasant. At check in time at the Hyatt in STL, moderate temperatures and sun. Friday the weather for the rehearsal and dinner was also moderate.

Saturday, Oct. 2, day of the wedding, began with showers and cool temperatures with little gusts of wind. By the time we left on Sunday, there was sun and cool temperatures, but nothing like we encountered in our drive across Tennessee. I had taken only one long sleeved top and had to make an emergency stop in an upscale WalMart in Knoxville.

The wind and cold air followed us back to North Carolina where it now resides. The best thing about this quick change to fall weather is that the next football game might have decent football weather.

PS The wedding was a beautiful, thoroughly happy affair. The parties over the weekend were delightful and the food marvelous.

Absolutely awesome today. Last night it was cold, a couple of my neighbors had bonfires going in their yards at midnight. I was walking my dog and at first thought their houses were on fire. Midnight marshmallows maybe?

It's time for this thread to come back into view.

There have been so many watches, warnings and alerts over the past 24 hours that I've lost count. One meteorologist said that if the storm which is causing all the severe weather had developed over water it would be a Category 3 hurricane. Instead, this monster storm has been moving over the landmass known as the continental United States. Currently in this part of the western Piedmont, we have a tornado watch until 9:30P.

And in the Triangle until 2 a.m. I was in Greensboro this afternoon when the tornado was west of WS heading NE. Glad it missed you, DitBD!
