Dan Meagher Appreciation Day - Sept. 9

Post by EarlJam » September 8th, 2010, 9:49 am

For those of you who did not know, today, Sept. 9, is of course...

DAN MEAGHER APPRECIATION DAY (see link: viewtopic.php?f=3&t=2446&p=81863#p81863)

So share your stories; your memories, and bask in the appreciationess of one of Coach K's first rough and tumble bad-asses, Dan Meagher.

GOOGLE is damn near.....no wait, it IS void of any Dan Meagher images as a Duke Blue Devils basketball player.

This is simply unacceptable, especially today, Dan Meagher Appreciation Day.

Meagher was one of the first players I grew to be a big fan of when I was a kid in Cameron. Loved the cheers.."Meagher, Meagher, Meagher!!!". And I'm pretty sure he was one of the first players not to foul. =))

Does he get - I mean have - to drink the beer or provide it for said penalty?

Screw that. When I was a kid, about 10 years old, I was at Duke Basketball camp (or Computer Camp, not sure..I went to both). Anyways, I was playing with a friend outside Cameron, and got stung by a bee on my hand. I waving my arm around in pain, and out comes Nessley. Apparently he didn't like me waving my arm in his general vicinity and said something to the effect of "watch out you little motherfucker". To a ten year old kid. He rocketed instantly to the top of my shit list and has since and forever will be my most loathed Duke player. He is an asshole.

Back on topic...Dan Meagher was never an asshole, he was just a tough player.

During his time at Duke, Dan Meagher was a stud, and I'm talking off the court.

Upon further review, the call on the field is reversed. There is no beer penalty. He said that to a 10 year old kid? What an asshole! :)) =))

He's my friend in real life. I am forever grateful to him.

Danny fouled all the time. He led the team in fouls during the 1983-84 season.

I've alerted him to this thread.

I never really went anywhere, I just ran out of things to say. But I'll always join in on appreciating Danny Meagher. (Is there a yowza emoticon?)

I found this picture of Danny (#45), Johnny D, His Airness with DoorMat between his legs, Mark Alarie and Tommy A playing in the 1984 ACC Tournament in Greensboro Coliseum.

Duke won this game 77-75.
